ESPN:
Hill said Darko Milicic, the No. 2 pick behind James in the 2003 draft acquired Feb. 15 with guard Carlos Arroyo from Detroit, will be given an opportunity to play -- but only after the third-year center learns the system

Isn't it funny how Darko fans just expect teams to give him minutes, rather than earning them?

Tony Battie did shit. If Darko was given his mins Orlando would have had a good chance. Him and Dwight Howard would kick ass

your basing this on what? darkos career averages of under 2 points and 2 rebounds, or his minutes averaging out to be under 6.5minutes

zmac wrote:I hope the only reason he got 3mins is becoz hes still new....
Giving him that kind of shit....thats really unfair for Darko.

it will be because he is new, cant expect someone who has done nothing for 3 years to come in, instantly learn a new system and do well in it.

omg you should be a sports analyst

as if Melo would have been happy in Detroit anyway...Tayshaun Prince was established as their starting SF, Melo wouldnt have started coz he doesnt play the kinda D the pistons like and he would have demanded a trade...so they just skipped the middle man :D

can you imagine melo coming off the bench as a 6th man? his scoring is perfect for the role, and he could play 20-30 minutes as a swingman

Wed Feb 22, 2006 6:09 pm

another thing is remember that one block tayshaun had on reggie miller back in 03. if melo wouldve been in the game, this wouldve never happened and they wouldnt have won that championship

thats crap, you cant base their championship being decided on one block, is anothony was there the entire year would have been different

Would Melo have been happy playing only 20 mins a game tho?

he probably would, being on a winning team and having a major part in it.

going from his 30+min now, i doubt he would want to go into a 6th man role, but if he started as a 6th man im not sure he would mind so much, as long as Detroit was winning

Wed Feb 22, 2006 6:56 pm

Detroit already had 6th man Corliss Williamson who was a force in the post and consistant.

Wed Feb 22, 2006 7:04 pm

Darko still da man!

Couldn't find a pic of him in his new uniform but this will do for now

Anyone out there got one please post it. Thanks :)

You cant discount the possibility of having Prince at power forward and melo at sf. They wouldnt lack rebounding or on the ball defense (help defense may struggle a bit though, but they still have ben wallace).

Good to see such loyal piston fans being able to really shut this guy down. Maybe you guys werent even detroit fans at the time :o ? But in all seriousness, Millers shot was only to tie the game up, and who knows what would have happened there. And then if we go by hypotheticals, the series would have gone to 7, and we all saw what detroit did last season in miami in game 7.

So Williamson is a better option than Melo?

Lmao @ Darko. This guy makes me laugh.

im saying the entire season cant be rested on that one block, because if anthony was there, the entire season would have been different

you know, sort of like when you go back in time and kill a butterfly, and then come back in time and everythings different...

Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:34 pm

why does everyone say the Pistons should have drafted Melo? clearly Chris Bosh would have been ideal guy at No. 2 (although he wasn't projected any higher than No. 4 or 5 at best at the time) of Dwayne Wade....both would be superb 6th men right now (Y)

 Prince guarding Duncan in the Finals. This is what gets you the rings.

i dont think he meant having prince at PF all the time... at least i hope not anyway

Melo would have been a cancer for this Detroit team....Bosh and Wade could have handled 6th man roles (as they would not have become NBA All-Stars by this stage probably if they played for Pistons) without worry....

Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:42 pm

we can go on all day saying who we could have picked instead of darko... basically just change melo to whoever and it all works... just so happens we take the worst out of a good bunch

Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:43 pm

the worst of the top 5....yes....but he could develop into the one of the top 7 or 8 players in this very strong draft class....big if though....I'm hoping he does....

Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:02 pm

no i never said that. But if it aint broke don't fix it. The team decided to give Prince the SF job full-time and his backup was one of the leagues best 6th men.

I suggest you re read what I said, I was saying that block didnt make the pistons champions.

What makes you think Melo wouldnt be a good 6th man or role player? He does know how to win (he won in college, somthing neither bosh or wade have done).

Prince guarding Duncan in the Finals. This is what gets you the rings.

They still have Ben Wallace. This isnt NBA Live where each position guards the other teams counterpart.

Darko struggles against the intense D of Z. Ilgauskas

Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:46 pm

No No Jae, It's darko foricng a double and triple team without the ball, even though he doesnt have the ball yet. and even though he doesnt have it, he is about to drill a 20 footer. oh yeah darko! and kevin martin too! and Smush Parker!! such great playaz...

Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:46 pm

Actually it read: Darko Milicic's four-minute Orlando debut included this fronting of Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Z went for 24; Darko countered with one reverse layup in Cleveland's 105-92 win.
