I think detroit is playing great right now, forcing the Spurs to make those turnovers. See Wallace in the first 4 seconds of the game? wow. I'm rooting for the Spurs just cuz I dont like Detroit but I gotta say I think Detroits gonna take this one.

:D Lets hope not.

I know they stole the ball on consecutive possessions but I think SA made mental turnovers on just about everyone of the turnovers they got tonight. Bad passes. Detroit played well but SA played horrible. I figured someone was due to explode in the second half and I never guessed it was Detroit. They scored 90 points, which is great for them against SA. SA made too many mistakes against a team just like them on the defensive end.

Wed Jun 15, 2005 2:48 pm

SA played a truly terrible game. That "complacency" factor Pop is so worried about reared it's ugly head...you can tell the Spurs knew they're up 2-0.

It's still SAS's series to lose...Detroit still can't stop SAS when they're playing well.

Wed Jun 15, 2005 2:57 pm

the win coincides with Ben Wallace's emergence (not to mention the stellar play of the back court)

didnt really expect Detroit to pull away like this, it was a tight game towards the end of the 3rd.

Nice to win a game without Rasheed Wallace showing up either, Dice got half the time and did twice as good. As usual in a must win game for Detroit, Brown only used 2 bench players until the matter was decided.

There's one thing Pistons do well..understanding their opponents...they figured out Shaq..now they figured out that irritating prick Ginobli....so there's still hope for motor city.

Not to take anything away from Detriot who were able to capitalise on turnovers, but the Spurs did throw this one away. This one was competitive through the first three quarters, I had a feeling Detroit would take this one before the game even began but not so convincingly. I'm guessing Manu was shaken up by that early hit as he didn't seem to have the same energy he usually displays. So much for Detroit being as overmatched as the first two games might suggest, though at this point I still think the Spurs will win in six, possibly seven.

We'll see how much home court means to the Pistons.... 2 more and we may see a game 7

us Pistons fans thought the same during game one, a game up for grabs which we gave up.

a good 4th quarter and pistons win, who would of thought. Dice is the man, he scores in bunches a lot but today was great.

This series is over if Manu is injured as badly as Shaq or Wade (is it even possible for Detroit to play a full strength team?). Anybody know the seriousness of it?

NBA.com is reporting he got slammed for both a knee injury and ankle injury that game.

One report is saying he suffered the same severe thigh bruise that slowed Shaq down for months.

I like both teams, but if Manu plays hobbled, Detroit is going to have a big gigantic asterisk next to this championship. Not a SINGLE team faced after the 1st round without injuries to their main stars.

San Antonio didn't seem prepared for Detroit's physical play. Atleast that's what it looked like to me. They lost this game due to Detroit being very, very physical. Watch them bounce back & play the same way.

It's the way SA plays. They played accordingly in Seattle, won from their small line up, against Phoenix, they played what Phoenix played, fast ball. Against Detroit, they were playing as they wanted, now Detroit has showed that they will be physical, expect Popovich to make his team play physical in game 4.

This series is quite interesting, I hadn't expected it to be, but it is.

Naw, it was more SA just turning the ball over than anything. I don't expect to see another game like this froma team that lost 4 straight to the Lakers a year prior but I do expect Detroit to be feeling good to have gotten a win. Tim played terrbile on the offensive end and Detroit defended him well. Manu getting hurt was not as much a factor as three starters playing with 2 fouls in the 1 quarter/half.

Thu Jun 16, 2005 5:10 am

Bill Simmons said it best.

9:07 – Longtime NBA fan Stevie Wonder plays the national anthem with his harmonica. Very cool. He'll also be reffing tonight's game with Dick Bavetta and Bennett Salvatore.

9:16 – Tonight's referees: Bob Delaney, Joe Crawford and (drumroll please …) Mr. Bennett Salvatore! I can't believe it! We have a home team in a must-win playoff situation and Salvatore was assigned to the game? That never happens!

(But seriously, is there a luckier team than the Pistons? Last spring, they lucked out with Jason Kidd's knee, the Derek Fisher shot and Karl Malone's injury. Last November, the Pacers looked like the best team in the East before the Artest Melee turned everything around. Last week, Miami was about to finish them off before Wade went down. And now, they're down 2-0 and the leading candidate for Finals MVP goes down 21 seconds into Game 3. I'm not saying good luck is something that should penalize them historically – believe me, I'm a Patriots fan, I would never insinuate such a thing. But Detroit's run of good fortune is almost unprecedented, don't you think? At the rate we're going, Duncan is going to be accidentally ejected from the Spurs' charter on the way back to San Antonio.)

 good find maes (Y)

i agree with most of that...but we're takin what we can get ;) :-D

now let's see another win pistons! 8-)

Thu Jun 16, 2005 6:59 am

postseason box scores show Detroit is 1-7 when either Ron Garretson or Dan Crawford has officiated its games and 11-1 when neither has been on the court.

Even though the Spurs have outplayed the Pistons so far, and even though the Heat outplayed them quite a bit in that series, don't you think this statistic is just a little strange? I don't think anyone has the right to complain about the referees except for the Pistons.. they've had plenty of bad calls against them during the playoffs (not that it's an excuse, but it should even out the argument that Detroit has the advantage due to injuries)

Thu Jun 16, 2005 4:14 pm

Officiating...again? Geesh...the Pistons played horrible this series. Officiating should be the last thing to look at. All this officiating complaints from the Pistons are getting annoying. They should just shut up about it already. I mean, they whine every single time. Maybe it's Larry Brown. He blamed the officials in the pathetic US Olympic team, but never blamed himself. Shut up Larry Brown, please.

Thu Jun 16, 2005 8:27 pm

indeed Larry Brown should shutup

it's not the Pistons fault that they face teams that cant go uninjured for a series. Besides, Kidd played what 40mpg vs Detroit, when was the last time Shaq & Kobe needed someone to win a championship, Shaq & Wade played through their injuries so there is no excuses.

If you are injured and you play, you lose all rights to bitch and makes excuses.

BULLSHIT!!! The officiating down the stretch of game 6 of the pistons pacers series was horrendous in favor of the pistons. All the teams have had terrible officiating in the playoffs.

Fri Jun 17, 2005 5:05 am

I was referring to the quote in maes's post from Bill Simmons.

I do agree that a lot of the officiating has been bad for almost all the teams in the playoffs, but come on.
