and why play with the lakers, why show any loyalty towards them when you've only played there for a year and they clearly have no chance of making it to the finals unless payton thinks he's so good that he could lift them over the hump once he's given the chance, but wait, if he thought that then he could lift the celtics over the hump too....

even if payton retires i dont think the celtics got screwed in the trade. the celts kept thier pg to play with west. they also got 2 players who have contracts that expire at seasons end. they also got a 1st round draft pick(with some protections). payton was not playing more than a year in boston anyway. i honestly rather if payton retires. that will allow us to give banks and west more PT which will help futher thier careers. by payton retireing(assuming the celts dont pull the plug) this trade only gets better imo.
