I was wondering the other day, maybe benji can answer this one.
The youngest team (in age average) to win a championship, or at least a conference title.

I reckon it's the 1977 Trailblazers (?)

Celtics starting lineup is only 2245 points shy of total 100,000 points (including todays game, it should take ~30 more games to achieve that), has there been any starting 5 close to this?

Possibly the 2004 Lakers.

This may sound like a dumb question, but what determines whether a player becomes an unrestricted or restricted free agent once his contract expires?
Also, if no team puts something down on the offer sheet for a restricted free agent, does he automatically get resigned by his team?

No, but they retain his rights. That's one of the reasons Josh Childress ended up playing in Europe until the situation with the Hawks was resolved and he went to Phoenix in a sign-and-trade.

What is +/-, what does it measure and how do you calculate it?

denotes team's net points while the player is on the court.

Highest FG% for someone scoring 40 or more points in a game? Amar'e shot 17-21 which is almost 81%. Is that anywhere near the record?

Is there a limit to how many draft picks you can have in one given draft / round in a draft / lottery?
Could the Cavaliers go around and shop everyone and get tons of 2011 draft picks?

In theory they could make a bunch of trades and stockpile draft picks, but the salary cap and other teams' willingness to take on bad contracts/freely give up their picks are obvious limiting factors.

Glancing at
this list, I think it may be Troy Murphy.

I would love for the cavs to get a bunch of draft picks, 1st rounders for sure, how many draft picks do they have for this year? Because i heard that the cavs got picks in exchange for Lebron James.

According to NBADraft.net, they've got their own first and second round picks along with the Thunder's second round pick (via the Heat).

I know usually the shotclock continues if you get blocked on a shot but what if during the sequence an offensive player gets blocked the ball hits the rim (like sometimes when a guy is going up for a dunk, the block deflects the ball and it still hits the rim or any other scenario etc.)? Does the shotclock still continue if the offensive team still gets the ball or is the clock reset? Poor wording on my part but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:56 am
it gets reset, well, at least it did when I was in college. I blocked a shot into the rim and then celebrated the shot clock violation....while the ref yelled play through it cause the ball hit the rim.

Jao was right as far as wheelchair ball goes too. Been a clock official a few times. It doesnt matter how it hits the rim as long as it hits the rim, it counts as a "shot".
Technically you could just bounce it really high and it could hit the rim and reset the clock if you trusted the other team wouldnt swipe it...

Except when it doesn't. I can't remember the game, it was years ago, but the referees decided that it was a pass, not a shot, and therefore despite hitting the rim it should not reset the shot clock. It may have been Nuggets-Heat 12/17/05, but don't quote me on that.

Why do Derrick Rose make a lot of turnovers in a game?

What is the longest possession in NBA history? (Time-wise)

Badger wrote:Why do Derrick Rose make a lot of turnovers in a game?
Because he's got the ball in his hands a lot. It's not that uncommon; Magic Johnson averaged 3.9 turnovers per game for his career and had a few seasons with over four turnovers per game, peaking at 4.6 in the 1984 season. John Stockton also averaged 2.8 turnovers per game over his career with a high of 3.5 in 1990 and again in 1992. Jason Kidd's career average is 3 per game with a peak of 4 in 1996. Of course they all had higher assist numbers than Rose but on the other hand they did score less. So basically, Rose's assist to turnover ratio could be a bit better but 3.5 turnovers per game is not uncommon or too unreasonable for a primary ballhandler.
Houndy wrote:What is the longest possession in NBA history? (Time-wise)
24 seconds; assuming we're to consider an offensive rebound to be gaining another possession rather than continuing one.
If we're to consider offensive rebounds as continuing the same possession though, this might be in the running:
