and lpasso... yeh... maybe it was the EC in 03... everyone started fighting after the game finished... and the next year the team had a major overhaul... all the old guys out and all the young guys in...

You must've been thinkng of EC in Belgrade in 2005. It wasn't actually fight, it's just relations betwen players were awful and coach told the press all about it. After that most of the old guys retired from national team.

stern has punished lots of players for thier actions away from the nba, why should darko be different?

You also have to consider that he did it in a country with a very different sports/basketball culture. The limits for what's acceptable behavior from fans as well as players are very different in Europe compared to the US - Darko's comments was still far over these limits, which the FIBA fine showed, but not as much as it would have been in the NBA, where he would probably has been suspended for A LOT of games.

I thought a Serbian would know the real result of the 2002 World Champs....Yugoslavia won it all, but they beat Argentina in the finals I believe....New Zealand got 4th, I think they got beaten in 3rd place playoff by Germany, although I could be mistaken....5th Spain & 6th USA....USA lost 3 times in that tourney I think....

so out of my recollection, it was:
1. Yugoslavia
2. Argentina
3. Germany
4. New Zealand (I think we actually beat Yugoslavia in the pool stages)

Anyone who's played a sport competitively can relate to that kind of frustration after a loss especially when you feel you've gotten a raw deal from the referees but a tirade like that is pretty immature and (if that translation is accurate) quite tasteless. I don't think Stern needs to intervene but I do think the fine Darko received was fair enough given the circumstances and I can't blame the Grizzlies for feeling less than enthused about the outburst.

Just proves he sometimes has problems facing the media and keeping himself professional and composed... I think it's good that he has the flair though... even if what he said was a little disturbing... Wonder if he will make an apology...

I'm sure he will. While Ive never had the desire to fuck someones "mummy" after a tough loss, the anger he showed there is seen in locker rooms all over the world after losses, while what he said was in bad taste, bringing moms and little girls into it, I wont condemn the man for having competitive spirit. And while Memphis publicly is giving him the stern talking to, behind closed doors, they're thinking this may be the mental kick in the pants needed to get Darko in gear. His timid personality is what holds him back from developing into the player we expect from a no. 2 pick. Maybe this is just what the doctor ordered.
