Ho' Grant Back To Lakers

Postby Matt on Tue Jul 29, 2003 9:06 pm

Horace Grant is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers.

A starting forward on the Lakers' NBA championship team of 2001, Grant signed a free agent contract with the team Monday. Terms were not announced.

Grant, who turned 38 earlier this month, hasn't played since being released by the Orlando Magic last Dec. 11. He played only five games with the Magic last season, averaging 5.2 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Grant is a 16-year veteran who has played in 1,110 games and has four championship rings. He signed with Orlando in July 2001 and averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in his first season with the Magic.

He played in 77 games with the Lakers in 2000-01, averaging 8.5 points and 7.1 rebounds.

The 6-foot-10 Grant has career averages of 11.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He played seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls before joining Orlando in 1994. He played five seasons with Orlando and one each with Seattle and the Lakers before returning to the Magic.

well, i bet he can still play..........at least he will provide some relief off the bench and play D

who else are the Lakers gonna sign? are they trunna go fro 82-0 or sumthin? at least they should let the rest of the L have a chance

Yes! The streak continues! There goes another player with ties to the Bulls dynasty that is going to win another ring. :D Every year since the dynasty ended, somebody with Bull ties has won a ring!

i don't know how he will do in l.a. cause when he was there for the 2001 championship, he was the starting power forward, and now he might not even be the first opition at power forward, with brian cook, samaki walker, and slava(madsen went to wolves)
but he is similar with the lakers offence so he might do alright.

 , Malone will play SF.

Anyway, I don't think Walker will be back. Now I see the Lakers with a combination of oldies with youngsters. Yet, Lakers might just want to use Grant the way they were using Salley few years back, as a terrific 12th man. Grant will not get balls if he gets any playing time, so don't expect him to average a lot, but I know he might fit well Jackson's needs.

Ah, I hadn't read anything about this. Given the Lakers' depth up front (pretty much none existant) I assumed Malone would play his natural PF position...

And the Kings just got Brad Miller...

Horace Grant...Horace Grant...an older, slower, lazier Mark Madsen with goggles...

You assumed correctly; Malone will play power forward. There's no way they'd move him to the three and start Grant at the four. No way.

Another good move by the Lakers. Grant's time is just about up, but he should be good for at least one more year as a productive backup in the league.

Grant's time was up when he last played for the Lakers. He's not going to help this team as much as Madsen would have.

Some of the Lakers have stated he will be starting. Which isn't exactly the best idea. Especially after the All-Star break when you have Devean George and Kareem Rush starting at the SF and SG spots.

Thanks for your input....

I guess Horace got over the whole free agency thing when he last left the Lakers and is looking for another ring to add to those shiny fingers. He gives the Lakers a solid backup for Malone, who only needs to play 10-15 minutes a night.

I think he'll be backing up Shaq more then Malone...I think Malone will be backed up more by Cook &/or Medvedenko. My thoughts.
