If their kids end up shorter than their parents due to some genetic anomaly, they're gonna be bullied.

It really could happen, though. Yao's parents were short remember? I wonlt be suprised if their children turn out to be below 7 feet.

EDIT: Oh, and zanshadow, I suppose you did visit the Yi thread. Cyanide posted a link to the article on the Chinese critizing Yao:

The Houston Rockets' star was faulted for taking too much time off to recover from his last NBA season. The government's All-China Sports Federation also said he spent too much time planning his wedding and making appearances for the Special Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Yeah, I don't think you'll find a whole lot of people to take that bet.

I'd take that bet. If Yao's parents are both short or "average" sized, then it's likely that Yao Ming has a thyroid problem that allowed him to be that tall. So despite that, it's likely that Yao's kids are gonna be shorter than him or his wife. It's like midgets; when they breed, they will likely produce average-sized kids.

Edit: just found out Yao's parents are not short.

i dont think yao's parents are short. i could have it all wrong but i thought they were both around 6'6. maybe my idea of short is just different or maybe i am wrong on the height

Not starve but die, she's flat-chested.

How the heck do they know its gonna be the tallest couple in the world? What if there is a couple that are both like 8 feet tall somewhere in a small village in Kenya or something.

6'7" dad and a 6'2" mom. I didn't mean short as in midget short, but you can find a ton of guys taller than 6'7".

But the law of averages does state that their children's height will be closer to the average height than Yao.

His wife is only 6'2"? Wow, I didn't look it up until now, but I always thought she was somewhere around 7'.

wee celt fan feeling a little inadequate, oi?

seriously though, yeah 6'7's, when I see them, are like freaks of nature, point at them and laugh. I would never want to be 6'7 or 7 for that matter. I prefer what I am, around flat 6.

Hopefully some miracle of nature occurs and the kid comes out half decent looking. Or at least a quarter. I'm not sure if I believe in big yucky looking things breeding.

I'm Chinese. Got a few friends who are 6' and 6'1" and they're still growing. I'm way shorter myself, though...

this marriage makes yao a better player.

1) finally getting laid... (takes pressure off his chest in locker room & everywhere he goes, now t mac & cos will stop teasing him)
2) now he can concentrate on games (he had to follow ye li around for 3 years)
3) gotta feed the family, responsibility. so has to do a better job at work (dunno if this logic applies to millionaire superstars)

Ehh... tall is pushing it. I'm 5'7.5" and I'm usually the shortest Korean where I go. I'm not Asian though so...

I'm 5'6"~5'7", and I'm just about average. Most people are either an inch taller or shorter. Of course, I've never been to Newport Beach so it might may be full of midgets adn I wouldn't know...
