The Cavs Thread

Finally a Cavs thread.
Most of my friends just see the Cavs as LeBron and some other guys, but I've really started to like the whole Cleveland team.
Gooden is so far has impressed me the most, he's doing great on the boards, and is scoring pretty well too. They play the Bulls tonight, and already has 6 points in under 4 minutes, has shot some nice mid range shots, and has played pretty well against Big Ben.
Hughes looked to be the answer to our teams prayers at the beginning of the season, but since has cooled off a bit. If he can stay healthy, and consistent, I see us going far in the playoffs.
Ilgauskas i have started to dislike more and more. For his height, I don't don't see how he misses such easy shots around the basket with no hands in his face. But he has a decent post game, and can grab boards easily, and it's obviously hard to find a Centre to replace him.
LeBron, is LeBron, getting better every year, automatically means his team will improve each year.
Marshall has strayed away from the 3 point line, which I think is good. He depended on it too much last year, and was pretty cold from three all year. He can get to the basket pretty good sometimes, and has shown he can do other things rather than just shoot and miss 3's.

Well im going to go watch the Bulls @ Cavs game, I might add more later.
How far do you guys see the Cavs going in the playoffs, and what position in the East do you see them being in?

The Cavs had a good win tonight over Chicago. It seems like everytime LeBron is on a National Televised game, he doesn't score as much.

It's a decent team, but IMO LeBron carries them beyond their normal capacity. Not to say anything bad about anyone on this team, but it's just a matter of age. Hughes, Big Z, Snow, and Marshall are past their primes, and nobody can reverse age.

It's also a problem in that all these vets eat up the salary, meaing no FA pickups & unrestricted free agents issues (like Varejao next year). Hughes' salary is in the same range as Ray Allen, Elton Brand, and Shawn Marion.

A lot will depend on if Hughes can prove he's worth that All-Star contract that could be used on someone else willing to pair up with LeBron.

LeBron had a crazy good second half. Celtics are not a very good team this year. They have only beaten the Bobcats.

Cavs have good players. But they are in a strange position. Cavs fans are amazingly impatient and throwing too much critique at LeBron (after each loss, realgm Cavs subforum becomes more and more furious).

WHat I really think is that Cavs fans should face the reality. Cavs is not a championship team. Not yet. Probably not for a while. They have the talent, but they lack chemistry, have alot of inconsistent players (strangelt LeBron included, putting up consistent numbers his perfomance is far from it), have questionable decisions by the coach and at times look like they have no idea what to do on court.

The only reason they are near the top of East is because East is amazingly weak this season. Cavs are eleventh in the league, and a bit ago finished their easiest part of their schedule of all season.

Cavs currently miss the sort of player who has this rough arrogant hunter instinct. The sort of thing that can make teams winners when the team itself cannot get there just by amazing chemistry.

But I believe currently the chemistry is the toughest problem. The team just doesn't look like a team at times. They can be amazing on runs, or when LBJ is 'feeling it', but right when the opposing team gets handful baskets in a row, Cavs are always with a big chance to completely fall out of the game. It is even worse when they are in the lead, I think they've blown huge leads more this season than anyone.

I'm hoping the Coach also gets LeBrons game in order. I mean, look at his recent games stats. One day he goes for around 10 rebounds and low assists, another game around 10 assists and nearly no rebounds. It's tough for a coach to plan on-court lineups like this, since if LeBron won't grab the borads, Cavs needs someone else to do the work for him.

Hopefully when Hughes completely settles in the team after all this time and when Gooden grabs up that beginning of the season strong perfomance again, the team might do well against stronger opponents as well.

Hughes won't settle in and put up numbers like he did in Washington on a consisent basis. He had his big year and he's getting paid. Just shows he really doesn't have the determination to go on and improve. It would have been completely different if the Cavs had've picked up Ray Allen or Michael Redd that summer and they would probably be contending.

I think the Cavs and LeBron played better last season than this season. It's their second
3-game losing streak of the season. Maybe they can stop it with a win @ Golden State tonight.

This year the cavs have shown that when they play as a team they win, they blew out the bulls early in the season because they played as a team , and they had a few other big wins.

LeBron is #1 of course, and has 30 points almost every night, along with his boards and assists, but Hughes averages 15 points when he should average about 20 (he needs to pick it up a bit), Z averages 20 points, but is very inconsistent, gooden averages 15 points i think, but he is very inconsistent offensively, and eric snow averages -2 points - 10 turnovers, and -3 assists every game

The bench is average at best, Dan Gibson is a rookie, but is better than eric snow - sometimes he can contribute, Damon Jones can jack up threes and that's about it, Donyell brings a little something to the table, but inconsistently, Varejao brings a lot of energy, great defense - not so good offense , Wesley absolutely blows this season, Scot Pollard only played 2 minutes this season, Shannon Brown is inactive, blah.

Eric Snow = biggest weakness they have.

Anyway, they're on a 2-game losing streak, orlando and the 76ers (both games a GOOD team would of won), and I'm scared for the rest of this season Because if they don't get a PG, we wont go deep into the playoffs.

At least they got revenge over the 76ers yesterday. But tomorrow they have a big match ahead of them against the Suns who are looking for their 17th straight victory and like cheater1034 said, if they play good as a team and don't lose their composure, it will be a interesting match-up.

I'm scared for the rest of the season aswell. They should either put Gibson as their starting PG or trade for a new one.

Edit: My prediction is that they aren't getting past the second round in the playoffs.

Good choice, as everyone in the city of cleveland wished to see, Daniel is getting a chance - he started against GS and had an impressive performance, hopefully he'll be able to remain the starter for the rest of the year, and gain the experience needed to become a successful player.

LeBron James will start in Thursday's game against Miami.

He worked out with his team at a shootaround and his sprained toe is feeling better.

James has missed two of the Cavaliers' past three games, including Tuesday night's home win against Golden State. But Cleveland coach Mike Brown said after the workout that James has received clearance from the team's medical staff.

''Based on what the doctors say, he can play,'' Brown said. ``If he reaggravates it or something like that, we'll sit him down for a while. But he feels he's ready and our doctors feel he's ready. So we're going to give him an opportunity.''

He will play tonight.

What did Wade do? score 24 points in the 4th. What did LBJ do in the last 2 mins? score a 3 pointer, go 1-4FT's, commit a flagrant foul on Wade and got away with an offensive foul
