Best NBA PlayOffs EvAr! Discussion!

Postby BIG GREEN on Wed Jun 21, 2006 10:19 pm

Come on people..we all can agree this was a legendary playoffs run. Whether you think it was the best ever like me...or the best ever in a few years. What are some of the momemts that made these playoffs so special to us true NBA fans?

Lebron's tripple double in his first playoffs games and breaking tons of records.

Him doing the distance with the piss-tons and their cockiness.

Kobe's clutch wins.

The suns comming back from 3-1

The hard fouls and the shitty pussification suspentions in the NBA.

I could go on and on...but share yours...

I liked when Detroit was pushed to 7 by Cleveland. In retrospect I give Lebron alotta credit because he basically willed them into that situation albeit a few suspect calls here and there.

This playoffs as a whole is the best I have seen in my lifetime....better than any of the 3 Laker championship runs. In every round there was more than one great series going on so they was always a key game to watch every night. The only downfall of this playoffs I would say is the blowout fashion of some of those game 7s. Would have been nice if it was as close as the rest of the series was.

Awesome Playoffs.

I think it could have done without all the suspensions though.

Hard fouls are a part of the game. I don't think there should be any suspensions involved for them. Maybe a fin or if it's really bad, why not just eject them from the current game. If it's not bad enough to do that, I don't think it's bad enough to suspend them for.

There were many moments. Probably should list them by round.

Conference Quarterfinals
Kevin Martin hits buzzer beater to win a game over the Spurs, but Spurs end up winning the series
Memphis gets swept (again)
Clippers show they are for real against Nuggets and advance to Round 2
Kobe clutch shots but Suns won 3 in a row
Pistons defeat Bucks and look like they will win the championship
Bulls were tough against Heat but Miami pulled away
Kidd, VC, and Jefferson hold off Pacers
LeBron shows flashes of greatness with triple doubles and buzzer beaters as Cavs beat Wizards

Conference Semifinals
Dallas comes up big in OT in Game 7 against the Spurs. It looked like Dallas had lost the series after the Manu 3, but Dirk was clutch.
Suns show they are for real without Amare, and go on to face the Mavs.
Cavs take Pistons to 7 games before falling just short. Pistons start to look vulnerable.
Heat easily dispatch New Jersey although many people thought the Nets could win the series.

Conference Finals
Dirk was clutch against the Suns and the Mavs came back in Game 6 to advance to the Finals
D-Wade and the Heat crushed Detroit while Miami upset the Pistons in 6 games

NBA Finals
After Dallas took a 2-0 lead in the series, Miami looked dead. Shaq was horrible from the line. Broadcasters through stats at the Heat that said they had almost no chance of winning (like 25 of 27 teams up 2-0 went on to win the series). But it all turned around midway in the 4th quarter. D-Wade started making these incredible shots, Dallas wasnt getting any calls, the Stackhouse supsension, and the Heat win 3 straight at home. Then Wade missed two free throws at the end but Terrys 3 pointer was off the rim. Great Finals to cap off great playoffs.

totally agree...
first finals for both the teams and they didn't disappoint me.
and my man Flash clutch, ended up winning the Finals MVP and broke free-throws record.
it's been awhile i would say that this is a year to remember (since the MJ Shot)...

these finals were better than the last 3 years because pistons and spurs won. That's why it seemed that these playoffs were the best.....Wade's performance ranks above Billups, last year's Duncan, but is it really better then shaq dominating 2000-2002, and Duncan in 2003?...They are about the same.

ditto. After watching (or not watching) the Finals the last couple of years with Detroit & San Antonio dominating, the new teams brought new life to the Finals. Definitely the best finals and in a long time, it's up there, but not the best. It's also one of the best playoffs in a long time too... with all those game 7s and controversial calls or no calls... I bet the ratings will be the highest since 2001.

I gotta say this year's edition of the NBA Playoffs certainly didn't disappoint. Lots of great moments, like LeBron getting a triple double in his first ever playoffs, Kobe's game winner in Game 4 between the Suns/Lakers, Gilbert Arenas, Vince's dunk on Zo (again) etc. NBA Finals were interesting, with Miami and Dallas both making their first appearances. I was hoping it would go 7 games, but Dwayne Wade was incredible. Love him or hate him, he's the Finals MVP, so you've gotta give him his props.

Definitely one of the best playoffs we've had in a while (Y).

Great thread, even better playoffs :)

The best moments for me as a Suns fan:

Game 6 in LA against the Lakers- Tim Thomas' game-tying 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
Game 7 in Phoenix against the Lakers- Blowout win...it was great seeing Kobe so defeated
Game 5 in Phoenix against the Clippers- Raja Bell's 3-pointer in the corner.

And IMO the best one:

Game 1 in Dallas...Boris Diaw's game-winning turn-around jumper to win the game!

Well I think that the young players was really a good addition to this years playoffs. I mean you have Melo, Bron, D Wade and others who havent gotten all that far in the playoffs and you see Bron and Wade go really far. Those two players made me watch and I think that it was nice to see a few more different teams this year.

Definetly the best playoffs I've seen. The Suns were really exciting to watch this year, coming back from a 3 -1 defecit and crushing the Lakers. They had a lot of the overtime games which I thought were extremely entertaining. The Kings also played the Spurs tough, and had they not had a few unlucky breaks could have upset them in the 1st round. Dallas vs. San Antonio in the second round was a great series , even if it was predicated on defense. LA v. Phoenix was also a great series.

The conference finals were probably the worst round imo. The finals of course were great for the first time in years.

No way in hell the best playoffs ever.

EDIT: What I meant, was that compared to the excitement of the Bulls playoff series's (sp?) in the 90s where there was close game after close game, this doesn't even come close IMO. Just in my opinion, though, don't go any retarded flaming rants.

I don't know about it being the best ever, but it was definitely one of the best in recent years and has to rank up there all-time considering the record amount of overtime periods, the 3-1 and 0-2 comebacks and the great games we've seen. What I said for the season as a whole in the other thread holds true for the Playoffs as well. It's not my personal favourite but it was my favourite since 1998.

my favourite parts of the playoffs:
- Suns come back from 1-3 down against injustice to beat cocky Kobe & Lakers
- Everyone getting on Steve Nash not being MVP but he made it further than Kobe & LBJ who most people thought should have got it....I thought either Nowitzki, Wade or Nash should've got MVP....but now I think LBJ was regular season MVP....hard call....but they are top players & ALL contributed to making one of the more memorable NBA playoffs of recent history....it's good to see that marquee stars are doing what they are suppose to (Y)
- Dirk coming up big in Game 7 against Spurs....heck, flag that, the whole Mavs-Spurs series was great....6 out of 7 games came down to like the last shot and were all decided by like 2 or less points....that's a series for the ages....
- Dallas Mavericks' play prior to NBA Finals
- Dirk's performance prior to NBA Finals
- Wades' performance in NBA Finals
- the high number of playoff games that went into overtime (I think it was an NBA record 10 or 11 times)
- The LA Clippers' playoff run....shame they didn't make it to Western Conference Finals....gotta luv the Clips :P

EDIT:

I have more:
- the emergence of a young player like Devin Harris to be a key player in beating the Spurs & exploiting the weaknesses of the Spurs....
- the emergence of other young players like Shaun Livingston, Barbosa, Varaejo, etc

Even though I'm a Mavericks fan, and we lost, and bla, bla, bla, I admit that there were some great games this year. And putting aside the fact they lost, I guess its pretty good that all these legendary players on the Heat finally won a championship (Y)

Mav's will win next year, it's ok

i really dont think that mavs will get to the finals again. All the teams that lost under the spurs and mavs are going to emerge bigger. I liked the 2004 playoffs better because Reggie miller against the pistons was a good one, and DARKO BROKE HIS WRIST WHAT A BUM. No one would have expected that the pistons would have beatin the Lakers, but they did. If the lakers won the championship, there would be no such thing as the heat or mavs going to the finals.

How can this be the best playoffs ever when Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves aren't in it? I don't know about you, but the 2004 playoffs were much better in my opinon.

Yea...that was my "What the FuCk??" moment of the playoffs. I didn't expect professionals to use street ball tactics.
