It didn't look intentional or serious enough to warrant a suspension to me.

Notice he looked at him (Ginobili?) before he elbowed him. I don't think it was an accident.

He made brief eye contact and looked away while raising his elbows, so I don't think he would he would intentionally hurt someone like that. Ron Artest is mentally unstable, but he's smart enough not to go around flailing his elbows at people Tony Jaa style. Artest is the kind of person that needs to be provoked first.

I think Manu's flopping helped the suspension. He's an actor, what an overraction.

I didn't think the hit was that hard, but it looked intentional and was unnecessary, not that sympathetic to Artest.

Artest's always going to be looked down upon and seen as violent because of the brawl. Even though it wasn't much of a foul, referees aren't going to take chances with him. Seriously though, the Kings really didn't have much of a chance to begin with. I don't think his presence is going to save them.

Artest is the best defensive player, if not the only defensive minded player on their team.

To have him out for another game would mean that the Kings would be in a 2-0 hole.

Anybody see Ginobli hit him, first play of the game?

Not defending Artest, I hate him. But Ginobili is a little cheap, too.

The fact that he looked at him then appeared to throw his elbow in a "calculated" way, combined with his reputation no doubt sealed the deal on the suspension. Not a huge injustice, it's only a game. If a player can be suspended for a game for being on the receiving end of a punch (or even just a swing) and not retaliating, then Artest can be suspended a game for an incident like that.

Agreed. Ginobili plays that way all the time, similar to Nocioni for the Bulls.

I don't think it warranted a suspension at all, and at most a flagrant foul. It's the playoffs, it's supposed to be intentse... had he thrown a punch or something I could see it, but really he was just trying to send a message that they weren't going to be shown up without fighting back.

I don't think sending a message through an intentional elbow is deemed acceptable by the rulebook at any stage of the NBA season. There's a difference between being intense and simply being dirty or unsportsmanlike. If it was LeBron James or Kobe Bryant who got hit, fans would be scrambling to have Artest booted out of the league.

i know it's not intentional but if it was a showdown ron ron vs flopu, i'd root for ron. I can't stand gino flopping every which way. he flops all over phoenix especially. we're going to have to keep raja and barbs on the bench for that series to avoid more injuries, mishaps, etc.
