Colangelo Open To Sign-And-Trade With James
19th April, 2006 - 11:51 am
Globe and Mail - Bryan Colangelo said on Tuesday that if efforts to re-sign Mike James, a pending free agent, were unsuccessful, he'd consider a sign-and-trade with the veteran guard.

"All I can say is he's been a nice piece of this team and the right piece for this team," Colangelo said. "We'd like him back, but if not, we'll take the necessary steps to improve our team."

I know people on the boards are happy that Colangelo is open to options like signing and trading Mike James.
I know its asdf is happy that it is an option.
I wouldn't mind it as well.

I definitely don't mind seeing James go. These last few weeks, he's playing with the mindset that he wants a big fat paycheck for about three years. He's too caught up with his scoring stats.

If only Calderon had a better jump shot and more confidence...

I really don't get the hatred for Mike James, who else would you rather have taking shots? He's the second best shooter after Bosh. He's a major factor in the Raptors having the fifth best offense in the league this season, and he's not to blame for the Raptors downfall: defense. Where they rank 29th.

He's playing for stats and he's basically playing for the money. Nobody that wears a Raptors uniform that plays like he does deserves any respect whatsoever.

He's just a shotchucking, undersized two guard who thinks he's some all-mighty saviour of the team. Toronto has won many games thanks to Mike James' shooting, but they've lost even more because of it.

If they trade him, get someone who can actually play defense or someone who can support Chris Bosh. That guy deserves more credit than he gets and it's because his team doesn't complement him enough.

I think it's clear that Colangelo wants to trade him away, but he doesn't want to drop James' trade value by saying it. That being said, i don't think we will get a PG in return. We could get a center or a SF back. I'm counting on the FA market for a PG.

seriously, i'd just let him go and let them develop calderon. calderon is a pretty decent player, makes smart choices. obviously not the scorer that mike james is, but that's not a bad thing.

hes a chucker for sure...I'm willing to sign mike james ONLY if we strictly play him as instant offense off the bench as a SG that could play some spot minutes at point.

Word. That's what I thought too when I read that. I thought immediately that he would trade him away. I don't mind gettin back in return a SF or C. Who though.

This is great news. I think we should go for a more veteren-type player (not too old, though), and start giving our rooks more minutes.

And I'm going to see them in Toronto!

I seriously doubt that. They've lost games because they don't play defense. If their defense was average, with that offense, they would've been a 50 win team this season.

James has been an older, less quick, slightly worse Tony Parker (with two fewer possessions) this season. (Parker listed second here...)

I'm talking about jacking about stupid three pointers when there are 40 seconds left in the game and we're down by 1, not really because he doesn't play defence. His shot selection really irritates me in crunch time when he takes some ridiculous shot with the whole team on him and fails to realize that he has wide open teamates.

Are the Raptors low enough to get Rudy Gay?

Plus, don't count on them to do well in the draft, they've tanked in it since drafting Bosh.

He was one of the keys to the Pistons defensive explosion in 2004. And was one of the best defensive players at the point guard position for the last three years.

I think it's during the Conference Finals sometime, maybe even late second round. I'd look it up though, I'm probably wrong.
