High Schoolers Other than Lebron James

Postby GloveGuy on Sat Jan 25, 2003 1:50 pm

Everyone talks about Lebron James but what about the other highschool seniors. My school has one of the top players in the country, Mike Jones, who's getting a full ride to Maryland. At a pre-invitational, it's said that he shut down Lebron. I know that there are other high schoolers who are unbelievable but live in Lebron's shadow.

I'm not a HS basketball fan, and don't know that guy but the media is all around that other guy Lebron who I have no interest to see him playing til he gets to the real thing. But you are right, there are other HS players living under the shadow of this guy, but also there are a lot of college guys (maybe better than Lebron) who don't have the media attention and are going to be in the same situation as the guy you mentioned. All we can do is blame the media, they put on tv whoever they want and you just can watch it or change the channel, :?

Luol Deng...I hear he's better than LeBron James and actually going to college (Duke) though I'd take everything nbadraft.net says with a grain of salt, I've seen multiple reports that seem to agree:
nbadraft.net wrote:Strengths: Versatile. Luol has an uncanny understanding of the game that allows him to play up to 4 positions on the floor. His game consists of posts ups, midrange jumpers, pull up jumpers, the long ball and a boatload of intensity. His passing skills are great for a player his size and his ability to drive to the basket makes him an even more dangerous passer. An exceptional athlete who possesses great competitive and intellectual skills, Luol has now also become a great defender. A heady player with tons of upside and a desire to be great. One of those rare players that make the others around him better.

Weaknesses: At this age Luol is not fully physically developed. Struggles posting up players bigger than himself. Relies on athleticism for rebounds, not position. Three point shot needs to be more consistent. Other than that a super prospect.

Notes: Luol is truly a joy to watch. He is hardworking, unselfish, an exceptional athlete and makes the game look simple. A very heady player who has the potential to be a star in league after he matures in college...Is the brother of Ajou Deng a lesser prospect, who never reached his early expectations.

Other "star" HS's include Ndudi Ebi (Arizona), Kendrick Perkins (Memphis) and Charlie Villanueva (Illinois)

Then there's always Telfair, Mayo and Marshall...though the last two aren't in HS...but are the top rated 8th and 6th graders in the nation

Mustafa SHakur is amazing I went to a basketbal camp with him about 5 years ago and I was beter than him, now he has blossomed into a great player that I can't touch.

Sebastian Telfair(Marbury's Cousin) is good.

Maureece Rice out of Philly is under rated because his team is absolutly terrible(shown when St Vincent/St. Mary's crusahed them) even though they run the Philly Public League....BTW Reece is 20 years old, and pretty damn dumb even though the commentators say he is 18,

Deng isn't better then Bron, none of them are. Bron just completely controls games and not only by dropping 50 every night.

Perkins is twice the size of any player he goes against and I don't think he's all that good.

That wasn't your reasoning though, you reasoned because he's 15 years old he'll be a great player...

How do you know BJ (yes, deliberate) Mayo is the best of his age in the World? Just because he's in the USA doesn't mean he's great. LeBron James isn't the best 17/18 year old in the World... there's a Yugoslavian kid who can do what LeBron does and more... and he's taller/younger, and has been playing professionally since he was like 15. Luol Deng grew up in England, which scares me, cause England ball absolutely sucks

About Luol Deng, we already heard he might be better. But about a Yugoslavian Kid: I agree you can't say Lebron is the best HS of the whole world just cause he's in the USA, but I bet someone has watched that Yugoslavian Kid you're talking about, and they haven't said anything, so that's why people keeps saying that other guy is the best.

The Yugoslav is named Darko Milicic, he is 17 years old now and is suppused to turn 18 the week of the draft. Here is some Very interesting Reading

His Scouting Report

Possible #2 pick if NBA lets him in

It kinda makes me sad since I'm a day older than Darko but he is over a foot taller and has 100x the basketball talent I have, why couldn't I be so good :x :o

Yes, I read that, sounds interesting to understand why the guy would be chosen number 2 and not number 1. At least he's not promoting all that talking Lebron is, because it would be so sad that both players get to be a big disappointment for their fans.

"O.J. Mayo will be a great player, hes only 15 years old!"

Unbelievable next they'll be rating kids in the womb. I could see scouts now:
"Hey look at that kid grab that cord he must have some serious handles!"
"Look at him kick that belly! What agility."

Thats just what I need, some punk ass 5th grader with an ego telling me he's the best baller in the country. Ranking kids not even out of middle school is sick! IMO

Also with BJ Mayo, he was ranked at his highest when he was 14... I'd imagine all a 6'3 14 year old would need is a decent jumpshot and leaping ability to get 20/10 per game. I suppose similar applies with LeBron, i've seen him play twice and both times he's been like the 3rd tallest on the court, with the other guys not much bigger... so I'd imagine he'll get a bit of a shock when he goes to the L and has to compete against people his own size and bigger... smells of Eddy Curry
