Hornets Acquire Aaron Williams

31st January, 2006 - 6:36 pm

ImagePress Release - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced today that they have acquired forward Aaron Williams from Toronto in exchange for second round picks in 2006 and 2009.

“Aaron will be able to step right in and provide us with an inside presence off the bench,” said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. “We’ve been looking for someone to help us to solidify our frontline, and he definitely fits the bill.”

Williams, a 11-year NBA veteran, holds career averages of 6.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 612 games. He had averaged 1.9 points and 1.2 rebounds through 13 games with the Raptors this season.

Lmao, a second round 2009 pick...

The trade wasn't funny. The funny part was that it was a pick from 2009.

I think it was a great trade even if Aaron was in his last year of his contract.

Pretty low risk deal. The Raptors get rid of a player they don't want/need in exchange for picks which could be of some use (in trades if nothing else), the Hornets find a veteran replacement for Andersen. Solid minor deal.

Both teams made good moves. Raps dump a lot of cap by giving up a player that is useless. Hornets on the other hand, have nothing to lose, lots of salary cap, 2nd round players aren't very good.

yes indeed, a good trade for both teams. Williams was useless in TO, but probably will get a lot of playing time in NO. Besides, the raps gets to clear some cap. Let's hope the other Williams will be gone as soon as well(To the Bobcats maybe? for futher salary cap relief? LOL).

Once again, Toronto has traded a player for pretty much nothing in return, but this time it's a good thing!!

Its a low key trade that isn't going to be making an large impact, but I'd take second rounders over an aging center anyday. We've had good luck drafting guys in the second round that are fairly decent (Ukic, Bonner, Sow and Slokar isn't too bad with almost the last pick of the entire draft).

They're in Europe. I think Ukic is coming next year, not too sure about Slokar though.

Ukic is coming over already by next year? thought he was coming for the 07-08 season. i rather have him stay one extra year just in case, and we still have calderon and james for next season. cant wait to see how good a calderon and ukic backcourt will be.

i think Ukic signed a multi year deal with his team. the raps can always buy him out though if they feel he's ready and Ukic is willing to play.

In regards to the 2009 pick...I think the draft day trade that saw Chris Webber and Anfernee Hardaway switch places saw the Warriors and Magic exchange picks in 1996, 1998 and 2000. I don't think much came of them but sometimes those far off deals prove useful. The Lakers got Magic Johnson first overall because of an unprotected pick and Darko of course is a recent example. But when you're talking about second picks, that might be a longshot. ;)

good trade for both teams....Hornets were in dire need of a rebounder/defender big guy....and earlier in his career Aaron Williams was one of the more consistent backups in the league....I don't think his contract has too much longer on it....he's either in the last year of deal or has one more to go....if he can get back to his Nets' days then he should be a solid guy off bench for Hornets....

as for Raptors, they got rid of a guy they don't use and they got a couple of 2nd Round picks....well worth it....you never know, they might find a nice player in '06 or '09....wouldn't hold my breath....

good trade (Y)
