Duncan vs. Shaq

Postby dada on Wed Nov 02, 2005 11:47 am

Just sitting here watching the spurs game and the question came to mind. First off I personally believe duncan is a C not a PF. if you had to pick one who would you get? I like tim duncan for his versatility. He gets in done inside and can step outside and knock down the shot. he has as man rings as shaq does and is in the playoffs all the time. i just dont know, im here waiting on you all to respond.

The better player in terms of talent skill? That would be Duncan, though Shaq is obviously more physically imposing and dominant. The better choice? A few years ago I'd say Shaq but he's started to slow down and Duncan will be around longer. But if we're talking about each player being in their prime, I'd find it difficult to pass up Shaq.

Tim Duncan is a center and he is a better player at this stage in their careers.

Overall in their careers, Shaq is a better player.

I agree with what your saying but HAS Duncan reached his prime? I dont know. just off the top of my head I think Duncan is a lot more accomplished than shaq regarding nba success in his first few years in the league. but as you said, kinda hard to pass up shaq.

Duncan also holds 3 titles, 3 Finals MVPs but 2 regular season MVPs while Shaq has one. I would pick Shaq in his prime, but right now Duncan is far ahead of him.

MVPs are a joke because it's just a popularity contest really. Shaq doesn't get it because he deserved it every year.

Well Duncan's 29 so he's not exactly a rookie.

Yep (Y)

I'd take Duncan right now since Shaq's injured and whatever, but in their prime I would take Shaq in a heartbeat.

I like Duncan the way he is. Wouldn't want him to be the center of attention all the time especially if it was just because he was running his mouth.

Duncan, simply because he's younger. Ask me this a few years ago, even with Duncan playing like this & give me Shaq circa 2000, there'd be no doubt I'd take that Shaq.

There's a chance Duncan hasn't peaked yet, but I'd still call it his prime since that generally refers to the best years of his career rather than his single best season.

Last night I was reminded that Duncan has the worst tatoo in the league. THE WORST. What the hell was he thinking? It's not like he can't afford some decent ink...

No question Duncan, simply because you never know how long Shaq is going to stick around for your franchise.

I can understand leaving LA because of the situation w/ Kobe, but Orlando did nothing but bend over backwards for Shaq...they even coughed up Chris Webber in his prime to get a guard who would pass to Shaq, only to have Shaq leave them high & dry.

OTOH, Duncan refused a massive contract from Orlando and the chance to form what looked like a dynasty with Grant Hill & Tracy McGrady, to go back to a the small time market San Antonio.

Duncan is going get you championships til the day he retires. Shaq might get you a championship but then the next year you're a lottery team picking up Andrew Bynum.

whats the point? have you nothing else to do with that worthless excuse of a life you have. i am very happy in a heterosexual marriage and i see no reason why a grown adult(hopefully) such as yourself goes around making posts like this. if you arent comfortable in your own skin then please do not take it out on me. I come in this forum to joke around and talk basketball with others. i have no intention of wasting my time on this anymore so do the adult thing and act accordingly.
