Quick Question: Would the Spurs trade Duncan for Lebron?

Just wondering if right now...if the Cavs called San Antonio and offered Lebron straight up for Duncan (and if the cap worked)...would they do it?

Obviously it'd be great for their future...but it would seriously change their chemistry and they wouldn't be winning championships again for awhile.

Probably. I think you'd be insane not to. Duncan's obviously not getting any younger, and to pass up a guy who's just turnt 20 and is putting up 25/7/7 would be crazy. I mean they could then always trade Gino for another PF or something, it's not as if Duncan is their only trade bait.

if you are just talkin about LBJ and TD, then probably yes. But if you had to look at the entire team, then No. The spur's got Ginobli and Finley and Barry. They are loaded at that position.

For one, Cleveland wouldnt do it.

For two, Spurs prob wouldnt either, unless we're talking about this is 3+ years AT LEAST.

I really don't think having Ginobili and some old guys would influence the decision to trade for LeBron. He can always replace Bowen.

Duncan is valuble to the Spurs as Lebron to Cleveland.

I think they'd do it, but they'd lose a pretty valuable big man. Other than Nazr Mohammed, what other big man is starter material on the Spurs?

Wow, I think Jae and I are the only ones who voted for the trade to happen. I expected more people to think that LeBron would be the gem of any team given his age and talent, but then I realized that the Spurs, as Duncan was (when he re-signed), are too loyal. Besides, they've won championships with Duncan, and a big man is hard to find these days. But still, any team would be crazy not to pass up LeBron.

Wolves wouldn't trade KG for anyone.
Cavs wouldn't trade Lebron anyone.

Why? Because those three are the face of the franchise and the team is being built around those players.

There is no player in the league that fits the Spurs worth trading Duncan for. None. Amare, no defense, rebounding, pass or I.Q., LeBron not the big man they need to rebound or defend in the paint, Garnett is not the low post threat Duncan is(could be though) but the closest player that would make it work, Kobe (nuff said).

That trade make no sense to me unless Duncan was washed up and he has about 4 or 5 good years left. (counting this season)

If you take a look at say someone like Karl Malone and how he did even in his mid 30's, you can pretty much expect it from TD unless his knees break down completely. Probably TD will be averaging 20-10 even around 35-37 considering his size factor and high level of IQ and ability.

Bron is no doubt going to be great but everyone has gone nuts for several swingmen. Kobe, VC, T-Mac, Penny, Hill were all slated as the next in line to take over the NBA but none of them will or have. Kobe won three titles but take out Shaq and he didnt do all that great. One season maybe but the fact is without a big man you arent going to win titles that easily.

Bron may have the better stats but the presence and mentality Duncan brings onto the court is something Bron will not surpass in the near future or ever. Duncan may not be highly athletic or exciting to watch but the fact of the matter is, besides Shaq Fu and maybe Allen Iverson nobody is a born winner in the league but him and in AI's case he struggles to get along with anyone except drugs, alcohol and his homies whilst Shaq has his ego increasing with every breath he takes.

And what Riot says is right too, plus specially in the Spurs case they've already won titles with Tiny Tim and look like they'll win a few more before TD departs.

You could probably devise some scenarios to make such a blockbuster more appealing and logical, but I don't think the Spurs would make the deal. There's too much loyalty between Duncan and the organisation, and with the longevity of big men it's not worth changing a formula that's working now and could work for years to come.

The main reason Shaq was traded because he demanded it and you wouldn't want your superstar to be playing half-assed for the whole season.
If Tim Duncan or Lebron James was complaining and wanted to be traded their teams would probably do so. Just look at Vince Carter.

What if you changed the question to SHOULD the spurs trade duncan for lebron. They wouldn't, but they should. They would adding nearly 10 years to their window of opportunity, and who knows who good lebron can be? Duncan has already done so much, maybe in a couple years duncan won't have as much value as lebron.

This team has three all-star players who complement each other. Championship material.

Bench:Finley, Van Exel, Udrih, Barry, Bowen,...
Their starting perimeter players would all be slashers and they would be incredibly weak upfront. I wouldn't call this team to be playoffs bound. They would have to trade half of their swingmen to get a couple of decent post players, and then we could talk about competing.
