Darko for Al Harrington ?

Postby BOSS on Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:37 am

NY Daily News - The NY Daily News is reporting that one week after Larry Brown and the Pistons parted ways, Brown's former club offered Darko Milicic to the Atlanta Hawks for Al Harrington.

Brown's reluctance to play the unproven second-year forward caused a rift between the coach and Detroit president Joe Dumars. Now it appears the Pistons are willing to trade the second overall pick of the 2003 draft. [READ]

Dumars has publically refuted that Darko's playing time effected his decision or relationship with Brown in any way, positive or negative.

I think it's kinda premature to trade him, since he really never got a chance.

Getting Harrington in place of a rarely used player during a two season span that was very succesful, is a good deal for the Pistons no matter how darko evolves. If I were Dumars, I'd do it in a heartbeat. (Y)

That was kind of unexpected, given the fact Darko hardly played, but for Harrington, it's definitely a good deal. I don't know what ideas Dumars have, whether Darko was trade bait all along, or an experiment gone wrong.

On Indiana Harrington wasn't used much either, and eventually cried enough to be traded somewhere where he'd start.

I don't think Harrington will be happy or productive rewinding back to the beginning of his career by being a bench player again. If he refused to play bench for Indiana i doubt he'll do so for Detroit...especially considering that Detroit has set records for how little they use their bench.

Players these days don't automatically just play 100% when they get traded. They take it very personally, and if they don't like their situation they know that playing poorly will get them out (thanks for verifying that does work Vince). You get very few "i'm just happy to be playing anywhere" type players, at least on Harrington's level of talent.

Heck, DARKO is complaining and talking about leaving and he hasn't done anything to justify minutes.

Well, now that Larry Brown is out, we don't know if Detroit will continue setting records for not using their bench with Flip Saunders in. But that's a good point you bring up, about how players feel about a new situation they might find themselves in.

Exactly, so w/ a new coach why not see how Darko pans out before trading him. Look at Cuttino Mobley, he bailed out of Sacramento the second his contract was up, in the end Sac lost Christie for absolutely nothing.

I would make that deal mainly because I just don't see Darko becoming a good player in the league with PT or not. Harrington is already proven and would be a great addition to a team that needs a little more offense and they will just add more depth.

Are the Hawks kidding? Darko for Al! It would be fair if its Darko and McDyess for Al.

Wouldn't this trade make the Pistons tougher to beat? Pistons already has McDyess coming off the bench and along with Harrington. It will strengten the Pistons frontcourt. Darko may get more playing if he play for the Hawks but still this trade is not fair.

Even though as far as proven skill goes, Detroit would benefit from this trade, the Hawks really need to free up their logjam at SF. So getting a decent prospect at PF and freeing up their SF spot could be enough for them to pull the trigger on this trade if the rumors are true.

it makes sense to get rid of some SFs, but i think the Hawks couldv'e gotten a better deal than a unproven player who might have potential.
The trade will make the Pistons better, but i don't see Harrington getting a lot of minutes.....wait who's the back up SF for Prince? damn it i can't remember...

I believe Rip moves over to SF those few seconds Tayshaun gets a rest, Rip & Tayshaun play 43 and 41 mpg respectively.

Good point about Atlanta just needing to clear their SF spot, but still Harrington isn't exactly old, he's 25 this year.

Maybe they're going to field 5 swingmen? A lineup of Williams, Harrington, Smith, Childress, Johnson with Stoudamire as their 6th.

Why would Atlanta want Darko? Even he might be good... But isn't Al Harrington doing a really great job there for Hawks??

Harrington was ok for them last year he was on my fantasy tem but hes Horribly inconsistant 26pts one night 2 the next. I kinda want this trade because we need a scoring threat but I dont want to trade away the potential next Jermaine Oneal.

I stand by my claim that Atlanta really has no idea what they're doing, trading away anyone that's worth something for potential, cap space that will go to waste or practically nothing. Sure, they might prove to be shrewd moves in a couple of years time but if they keep going like this, they appear to exist only to help out the other 29 teams.
