Turiaf Has Enlarged Heart, Will Need Open-Heart Surgery

Postby SkipToMy_Lou on Fri Jul 22, 2005 3:15 pm

Ronny Turiaf, the Los Angeles Lakers ' second-round pick at No. 37 overall and the West Coast Conference player of the year as a senior, has an enlarged heart and will need open-heart surgery, ESPN reported.

Turiaf's condition was confirmed by his agent, Bouna Ndiaye, who said the problem was diagnosed during extensive medical testing in Los Angeles. Lakers spokesman John Black reportedly said Turiaf will have the surgery in 4-6 weeks. A press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT on Friday in Los Angeles.

Yeah, lol very much . I'm reall worried about his condition. He has potential to be a very good player and I hope he'll be OK and use it (Y).

Damn, all these promising big guys with heart problems lately... :( I hope he's alright. These operations always seem to go successful but I hope I never have to get surgery. One of these times something will go wrong.

LA is voodoo cursed.

Only way to explain going from a Dynasty to a team featuring Kobe, Kwame, and Bynum.

They can't even hold on to Caron Butler...sheesh.

Things like that are not only frustrating to a player, but dangerous as well. Just imagine being in Curry's or Turiaf's place, and even after the doctors clear you to play, you'll still be remembering Reggie Lewis and fearing you just might drop dead on the hardwood. Must be hard to handle, to say the :x :( least...

I thought he was the most intimidating forward/center in the draft. And now he cant play. Good Luck to him and hope he recovers soon.

I'm not that stupid . But I still find loling through circa first five posts inappropriate in a thread about a guy who can die from whatever reason it is present. No hard feelings, m'kay Kekec (try to find translation for that on the net )?

It was really sad watching him, in the news. I hope he makes it. And once he is healthy, I hope we see him on the court.

I don't know if it is the same in Spanish, but "cardiomiopatía" is when the heart muscle is not working right.
Ronny has an "enlarged heart", I'm not sure what it means. :|

He's got a big a heart.

Seriously though, it's a sad thing. I saw him play at Gonzaga once. He was a beast. Like an offensive Ben Wallace. I hope he gets alright.

...and Etan Thomas.

It's because of the body type and hair I guess.

Hopefully it won't serve to end his NBA career before its even begun but more importantly, prevent him from living a long and healthy life.
