when i was watching the rockets-nets game on TNT just a few mins ago, they flashed that proposed deal was announced to the league and that the league has to approve it. the trade is :

Actually they said it was a deal that might happen, I never heard them say it was in approval stage.

Right now it's just speculation, something that could happen, it's not been sent in and waiting for approval.

Not really, I don't think Spreewell will give them that much of an edge, Spreewell is old himself. Not saying it doesn't give them and edge, just not a real big edge over other Eastern teams that will gurantee them going ot the Finals or something.

yeah, if this trade goes through, the Raptors will get ripped off again. First they lost on the VC trade and now this. Management believes this season is a write off and they are trying to create cap room so that they can go after a superstar in the free agent market next summer...that's what it's all about.

I agree. Toronto is being retarded. They could have traded VC to NYK and saved 50 million? and got better players than an injury prone Zo and a couple of benchies/sorta roll players. He should be fired.

Anyway, I think it is a pretty good trade all around (minus the raptors, but i'm not a raptors fan so it doesnt matter to me.) Knicks get Rose, but that will only put them in bigger cap problems, since Penny's contract expires next year I think, and Rose the year after, but I guess it evens out since Rose is a better all around player imo, but wtf are the Knicks gonna do with Marbury/Crawford/Houston/Thomas/Ariza?

Maybe they don't think Marshall will re-sign with them next year and I cant blame the man, but Penny isnt guaranteed to produce either and is injured. I doubt that the Raptors will be able to replace VC. Toronto cant quite figure out what to do now that their MJ is gone.

If the Raptors do this, the will be getting draft picks from someone. The Raptors won't get any immediate cap relief, because they weren't going to resign Marshall at the end of the year anyway, mainly because of Matt Bonner's emergence. They can resign Bonner for much less than they would have to give Marshall, and they do pretty much the same thing on the floor, except Bonner is a fan favourite. I wouldn't be surprised if the Raps bought out both Penny and Zo for some relief next summer. The Raps have a pretty good rotation right now, and it wouldn't be hurt too badly if you take Rose out without adding anything. Between the emerging Mo Pete, Eric Williams, Lamond Murray and Bonner, the 2 and 3 are pretty solid all around.

This would be a really shitty deal for several teams. Only Minny would be better after the trade. They get rid of Spree's attitude, and pick up another good big man who can take some of the pressure off KG at centre some times, and Jones can do the same job that Spree was doing, just without the insanity. The Knicks don't really improve, because Rose will still be coming off the nech, but he will also be sharing minutes with Crawford and Houston, instead of just with Peterson in TO. Their cap is fucked. Miami is taking a HUGE gamble. If Spree starts his normal activities in the Heat locker room, Shaq might punch him out, break his hand and be out for the year and Miami still doesn't win a title. If Spree behaves himself for the most part, he will still be bugging the Heat front office for an extension before the season is through.

So in review, Minny gets better, the Knicks don't get better or worse but their cap is even more fucked, the Raps win if they get picks back, but this season is another write off, and Miami is risking too much to win in this trade.

i guess this shows much of an ass/how low rose's value is at this point. since rose's contract runs 2yrs longer then penny's, they had to add something to sweeten the pot. 2yrs and 31mil owed is a lot to swallow for someone of rose's talent/age

next year, penny will be a good veteran presence while at the same time be a trading piece because of his expiring contract. next year, rose will be a fading malcontent who is virtually untradeable

I really don't understand this trade for the raptors. Basically they saying they want to give up Rose+Marshall for Penny???? Rose alone is OK, but the Marshall part I don't understand. It's not like he had 5 years left on a bad contract. Worst part is he goes to Minny for free? I know they want to get rid of Rose, but geez throwing Marshall in the deal and getting no one is a bit bad. MAybe theres some other players involved ( or a draft pick at least)
