In their first unofficial court meeting last week as Nuggets teammates, the team's reigning macho forward and the All-Star prototype imported from New Jersey for $90 million exchanged hostilities in an ugly confrontation.
An extra on the scene informs me Nene and Kenyon Martin, on opposite sides, had been battling for turf and respect for some time - neither is a center, thus the starting four spot is up for grabs. Meaning, they weren't about to keep their hands to themselves. The usual infuriating pushin' and shovin' ensued each time either one tried to establish inside position. Suddenly Martin reverted to brutal form of a few years ago. He spun around on Nene, recounted the eyewitness, and punched the 6-11, 260-pound Brazilian, hitting him square above one eye, opening up a gash that necessitated stitches. Teammates prevented further bloodshed. Temporarily. Nene is far too bad to the bone to let Martin get away with a sucker punch.

if you can't beat them, sock em

Ouch, not the best start for new teammates. I would assume the Nuggets are carrying out damage control behind the scenes in the hope that team chemistry improves before the season begins.

Seems like Nene is next one who demands a trade.I bet Kenyon wouldn't do this to Camby since he knows what Camby could do.

Is it just me or does that source seem a little dodgy to you guys?
I mean... stuff like
underlined a Sacramento hall monitor
Jayson Williams, sleek and (dead) serious, is planning a comeback in November when his Nets contract expires. Naturally there has already been contact with the Jail Blazers. The E-limo-nator hopes New Jersey prosecutors will drop outstanding charges against him if he admits having an affair with Jim McGreevey.
Doesn't seem too official to me, but anyway... it's good to see this much intensity going into training camp, but didn't Nene say he was fine being 6th man around the time when Martin was signed?

alittle violence doesnt hurt,he looks like he can take it.lol
Mon Oct 04, 2004 4:30 pm
Man I know Kenyon is a pretty big guy, but Nene is a tank, I don't know if he should mess with Nene.
Mon Oct 04, 2004 5:21 pm
It's only a bit of fun and games... i guess- but the guy who plays off hte bench should be real cut!

He'll break into pieces

No....when K-mart would have beef with him, then Camby would smack their coach.

I read somewhere that this Nuggets is splitting up in two groups... One of them is headed by Carmelo and also involves Rodney White... The other is composed by Andre Miller, Earl Boykins, Camby too (if I'm not mistaken), and Nenê... I wonder if this team could have chemistry problems...

I don't know why he did that? He would have likely gotten the starting job anyways, he is a much better player than Nene. If it was about the starting job then I can't understand why he punched him, if it was about something else then I would like to know.

new york post, denver post, hmmm
anyway, I think Martin will be the starter, after all he is a all-star. Sucks that he has to do this, I don't thin Nene is the right guy to mess with, hes pretty big..
this isn't great for denver, they finally get to the playoffs, get some upgrades, but i am not sure if the chemistry will work. They seem to be anther Portland Trailblazer team, except problems is on the court not off.

Teams have been successful, even won championships with behind the scenes disputes and ill-feeling between teammates; take the 1991 Bulls and the Lakers of 2000-2002 for example. I'd have to agree though, if the Nuggets are splitting into two factions it's bad news for their team chemistry. Today's players just don't seem to be good at putting aside their differences come game time.

Well, Peter Vecsey is about as reputable as the Iraqi Information Minister
While there might have been something, I'd take a guess and say that good ole Pete blew this one out of proportion like he always does. Especially since he never, ever sources his info, so for all I know he could have thought this up over lunch or heard it directly from Nene - either could have happened, but I am going for the first option here.

....because everyone would play zone against them and they'd have absolutley no outside shooting after Carmelo who's only decent.
Also Kenyon isn't that good at PF.
