players you love to see guard each other

Postby j.23 on Thu Dec 25, 2003 11:25 am

yeah.. just like the topic says..
who would you want to see guard each other in a game?

i think the one i wanna see the most is paul pierce and kobe bryant.. both great players, about the same size, and an uncanny desire to win.. i remember when the celts visited LA 2 years ago, pierce guarded kobe in the waning seconds of the game but kobe still hit the "game winner" (it was waved off coz time expired.. only the next night he actually hit one against NO )

other matchups..

kobe/mcgrady
carter/mcgrady
kidd/bibby
garnett/webber ( their game last year rocked )
garnett/duncan
stojakovic/george
payton/kidd
pierce/mcgrady
malone/webber
iverson/kidd

whats yours

ive seen this one a few times, KG seems to turn it on. I believe in 2001 he scored a career high 40pnts (has he scored more since) against the Kings at home in a win. He scored 2 3pointersin that game, one was a turn around J right on Webbers face + other cool moves in the paint. I think Wolves were on a 10+ win streak that time

Stackhouse vs R Hamilton
Olajuwon vs D Robinson (back in the day matchup)
Jordan vs Dumars
Garnett vs Duncan

Garnett -+- Duncan, whats better than watching an MVP guarding an MVP.
( I know KG hasn't won an MVP, imo the man is a MVP. )

Pierce vs Kobe definetly
both great defenders unlike carter and mcgrady who seems to slack on def a bit..
I remember when Kobe and Shaq were having problems together and Pierce dropped 40sumtin on the lakers to win it and Shaq was calling Pierce a real man unlike Kobe ...
I think that turned up the heat a little bit even tho not many ppl remembered..

Yao vs Shaq.. Yao plays more aggressive against Shaq..
Yao vs Ben Wallace .. watchin a great defender tryin to check some1 like 8 inches taller =)..

Garnett vs Zach Randolph
I think that happened a week ago or so but i missed it..

Jefferies vs Brunson.. o man.. i'll pay to see that..

Tmac vs Kobe on the Shaqless Lakers.. best matchup with today's players

I'll love to see

Dallas Mavs Jason Kidd vs Sacramento Kings Jason Williams
Marbury / Iverson
Kobe / Mcgrady

Jordan/ Barkley games were always fun to watch, esp after the game during the press conference's
"damn, Michael took 40shots..damn"-barkley

Payton& Kemp / Stockton & malone

rodman / malone

The funny thing is about Yao versus Shaq, is when do you ever see Yao defend Shaq straight up?(Yeah they said this last night) It might as well be Shaq versus the whole damn Rockets, because he gets doubled and tripled teamed every time he gets the ball.

You do see all other teams doing the same, so what's the point of saying that you like seeing Shaq/Yao guard eachother, when in reality, no one individually guards Shaq. Not one center guards him straight up now.

Yeah you only saw them go one on one when Yao had the ball, and Shaq guarded him by himself. Yao had some nice turn around J's, something that Shaq has yet to had to his repetoir, and probably won't. Anyways, yeah Yao might block Shaq's shot sometimes, but if he were to guard Shaq straight up with no double team, he'd get hammered. Most centers would...

im pretty sure shaq has a turnaround jumper, from about 8-12 feet on the base it is. It just looks a little wierd coz he shoots one handed.
but im sure he has one.
Yao Ming was dominating in the first half i thought, especially on shaq. he didnt back down and i liked that, i was dissapointed actually they didnt keep feeding him the ball in the 2nd half.

actually i saw yao guard shaq straight up a few times. maybe i was watching the imaginary tv again but i do remember seeing shaq do a fade away one hander in the first quarter with only yao covering him.

anyway...

i barely remember the young mj matchup with the fading erving. was it any good, colin?
