*BANNER NIGHT*

MINESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (Atlantic 0-0) @ NEW JERSEY NETS (Midwest 0-1)
Tipoff- 8PM on ESPN
Nets Home Record: 0-0 (Last season: 33-8)
Wolves Road Record: 0-0 (Last season: 18-23)

Nets Opening Night Roster 03-04

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You do worry about it because I've been a part of some of those banners being hung up and we've come out and got the [stuff] beat out of us. But we hung up a banner last year and came out and played pretty well. It's something that motivates us also because we're hanging up Eastern Conference banners. The thing that motivates us is one day hanging up NBA [championship] banners. Hopefully it has the same type of impact it had last year and we'll get going." - Byron Scott
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INJURIES:
Both teams limp to the court in this exciting matchup. The wolves have Wally Sczerbiak and Sam Cassell on the injured list, while Lucious Harris takes his spot for the Nets. Rodney Rogers and Kerry Kittles are both questionable because of a cut (for your information: the papers call it a "lacerated thumb") and a bruised thigh, respectively.

Quotes:
"I'm one of the best percentage shooters in the NBA." - Richard Jefferson, when asked if he was worried about how his shooting started off this season.
*uh oh. Is there a limit to RJ's cockiness? Don't get satisfied on us Jeff!

"Byron Scott coming off the bench." -Byron Scott, when asked who he woud play at shooting guard if Kerry and Lucious were both injured.
*hey, that doesn't sound too bad considering sadly, Byron would probably be the best shooter on this team...:rolleyes

"People are still thinking about the Finals and not thinking about the other games that we played in the playoffs and what we did throughout the season. Again, you are only as good as your last game." -Richard Jefferson
*a VERY bold statement for someone who missed 10 of 13 shots in HIS last game.:b

Happy Halloween from former Net Donny Marshall, who thinks he looks quite handsome in his headpiece. Kenyon Martin seems to think otherwise, but man do I miss that bald head! Weird hair or not, Kenyon contributed 26 points and 12 rebounds in his season opener-hopefully sending out a message to the league. He can take it a step further tonight by winning his matchup against one of the best proven power forwards in the league, Kevin Garnett.

Last Words:
"Are we going to have our third sellout? We are very excited because it is not like you are playing the Heat. No disrespect to them, but you are playing a very, very good team in Minnesota. It is not like it is a home opener against a pushover. It is a very tough game and it is going to be exciting." - Richard Jefferson
RJ's exactly right. This is a crucial game at a crucial time in the season. We're setting the pace right now, we screwed up 2 nights ago, but we need to focus on the present. Yes minesota is a scary team, yes they're from the mighty West, but the Nets have spanked the old wolves and they can handle the improved big bad wolves just as well if they play like they should. Sorry to those Yankee haters out there, but I'm going to put in a quote that perfectly describes this situation. "You forget about it whether it was 15-2 or 3-2. It's still a loss. It doesn't matter what the score was if we win tomorrow." Yes, words spoken by shortstop Derek Jeter - like him or not, that statement is as true as it gets.

Nets 101, Wolves 92 - Trying to be positive here but this game can easily go either way and there is a more than good chance we'll watch our Nets start their season for the first time in what seems like forever, 0-2. Don't count on it though. With Jason Kidd leading the squad, him and Richard looking to bounce back from horrid shooting nights, Alonzo Mourning look forward to a special Continental debut, and Kenyon Martin giving his all as always, this team can get it done. LET'S GO NETS!!!

Wolves set a record for lowest total game score in their franchise's history. I couldn't watch that game, it was just way too painful. :(
