Lakers/Mavs

Lakers 109 Mavs 93

Well if you're a Lakers fan things look good so far. The Lakers D was very impressive tonight, most notably Payton. They closed out very well and their perimeter players were all over the Mavs.
On the offensive end, they were sharing the ball nicely. Let's see what happens when Kobe comes back though...
I thought both Payton and Malone were awesome in their debut, while Dallas looked very lost for most of the game.
Only bright side were Antoine Walker and Antawn Jamieson.

Comments on the new look Lakers and Mavs or the game ppl?

this is very disappointing to me, an avid laker hater. dallas does all this off-season trading, bryant doesn't play what happens? the same shit that happened last season when dallas played LA at LA-they get blown out. and wtf is the point of starting fortson n e way if he's only going to get 14 minutes? ........dallas aint gon' win shit this playoffs, and jamison will want out at the deadline

I think the most surprising thing was how the Mavs got killed on fast break points. Payton pushed the ball every time he had the chance and the Lakers definitely took advantage.
The Mavs on the other hand didn't have too many fast break opportunities. I think Nash was just out of it tonight, and they really missed Van Exel backing him up or playing alongside him.

The Lakers played awesome, very unselfish basketball which reminds me like Swa said the 2000 Lakers. Nice backdoor passes by Malone to driving players. Tonight Gary was the leader with some nice inside drives, sharp passes and good rebounds. Devean George also played better then I expected. I hope the Lakers will continue like this when Kobe returns, if so.......watch out!

Chemistry was missing with Dallas. The fluid motion they showed in past seasons couldn't be found. I guess incorporating the new guys is taking them awhile. they better adjust soon or else poeple will just laugh at Nelson and Cuban saying "we told you you'd need defense...."

Pretty even scoring for the five starters...but will that be the case throughout the season? Will the four superstars be willing to average between 15-20 each, or will Shaq (and Kobe, when he returns) pull ahead and average 25 or more?

Great debut for Malone, a near triple double.

A minor thing that I saw, was that the Lakers just gave the Mavs chances to shoot thr 3´s. Toine was the only 1 who was knocking them down with 5 from 6 (jacked up his 1st one and tought that he would shoot like that all the game, I was wrong  ), Dirk took 6 three´s, Finley and Nash both took 4, Jamison hit 1 from 1, and Tony Delk 1 from 3. A teamtotal of 7-25. The Lakers are lucky that they missed alot of them because most of them were wide open shots. What about Gary Payton Andrew? also nearly a triple double 7 rebs, 9 ass and 21 points :P

Man! This is awesome! As a Lakers fan...this is unbelievable...since the day Malone/Payton signed....to now...i was like,'dude...amazing.' This is awesome....Spurs watch out cos Lakers gonna take that Ring! hahaha!

Anyway...I like it how Lakers had even scoring-6 guys in double figures! That's awesome...honestly...i'm satisfied with this...even if Shaq/Kobe only score 20 (Tops) ppg...it's great...maybe if everyone only scores less than 20ppg...we'll get to see more passing and great plays! :P

Oh...and to you Dallas fans...remember THIS game...oh yeah...remember the 30 point come-back? How many home games have we won? 24 in a row! mah hahaha!

Yeah...Payton must be having a ball...controling the point...and Malone! Those two nearly had triple-doubles! Go Deaven, Byron and whoever else scored 16 (D-Fish?)...go the supporting cast! Horace Grant had 5 borads!

Dallas...dissapointing...(No offence)...I was hoping to see more scoring...but hey- everyone has their bad night...(Nowitski- 6 missed from behind the arc!)

BTW...did Kobe really sit out to rest his knee...or didn't he play because of his off-court matters...(after his shaq-kobe fight just been resolved or wat?)

The Mavs will be ok once they all settle in.. what i notices was nash bringing the ball up, but antoine walker was the one creating things for the mavs. But, they could end up like portland a few years back..

How many home games have we won? 24 in a row! mah hahaha!

What exactly do you mean by 24 in a row?

I think he means the Mavericks have lost 24 in row at the Lakers.

I thought they said it was 26 in a row. I dunno. The main thing is, the Lakers played brilliantly. What a game!!! And the near triple doubles to Payton and Malone. Fantastic. :D

And that's the point. The Mavs didn't beat the Lakers when they were weaker years ago and they didn't beat them now after those amazing offseason-trades. That creates my opinion that from only that lonely game nobody can say that the Lakers will come out big that year or the Mavs will suck.

I have to admit that I was disappointed with the Mavs performance! Dirk played well, though he missed alot of jumpers & 3's.... Walker, and Jamison were exceptional; and just like I said playing with the Mavericks could make Walker a better & more dangerous 3point shooter, because he'll get more open looks!

The Lakers last night played more like a Dallas Maverick style of basketball; only with better defense! I don't know if anyone noticed? But the Lakers killed the Mavericks with a whole bunch of jumpers, left, right, & center! I mean, Russell, Fisher, Payton, Georger, even Pargo was hitting jumpers and 3point shots!

But I agree with the guys on TNT last night, it's going to be difficult for Don Nelson to keep everybody happy on the Mavericks. I think Jamison will put up 15 points off the bench, and will be a definite contender for 6th man!

The TNT guys asked a question? "Is there a offense that is so good, that it wouldn't or doesn't matter what type of defense you play?" Well I believe, it doesn't matter how good your offense is, if you don't have any defense you ain't winning shit.... because there will come a point and time, just like last year games: 4, 5 & 6 verses Portland; when you're going to struggle to score; and that is why defense is, and will always be the key to championships!

I have to say as a Laker-Hater it was hard to watch them punk the Mavs, but Malone looked great. He looked like he was 25 years old. He had a near triple-double. I love those Mav's platinum jersey. And I still love this game.

Well, I just gotta say that game was a bit boring. I expected it to be a it closer. When I heard Kobe was going to be in civies I thought the Mavs would run away with it but then with guys like George hitting J's... Off-court problems aside, it seems as if all the changes the Lakers have made during the off-season are really going to pay off.

I also watched the TNT coverage and I think Magic came up with some very interesting insights during the half time discussion, about the Lakers pushing the ball more with Payton around etc...

well Mavs are on their way to a second loss, this time to the Warriors
they toggled with their lineup starting Delk, Nash, Finley, Walker, Nowitzki and Forston has only played 3 mins so far (5 mins left in 4th)

ahahah, Dampier has a dbl dbl in just 26 mins of play and even Cliff Robinson managed to grab 11 rebounds
