Unfortunate... its a shame what losing will do. He did the best he had the last couple of seasons... and in 2000 i thought they were the best in the east... but i guess he felt this was the time to go, and stan van gundy gets a good opportunity.. to pat riley, one of the best coaches in nba history imo
A shame to see him leave the sidelines, but they can't coach forever. Though he wasn't nearly as successful in the 90s as he was in the 80s, he's still one of the best coaches in the last 20 years...and in league history, for that matter.
It is a shame since the Heat seemed to be atleast somewhat on the way up. This decision was probably made a while ago, he just stuck around to help with signings and what not. (ie Smokey Odom)
shame seeing him going without a last championship...i guarrentee he'll be back he doesn't like to lose and i think he's gonna be back in few years...even though it might be impossible..i wanna see him come back and coach with Phil Jackson to win one last championship...
I don't think Riles would ever take an assistant coaching role.
These are good news, even after being a good teacher, great & motivator coach, Riley spent last year concentrated in the excuses he was going to use for every losing night & that was a sign for him to leave. It was a much better decision to leave by himself tho
