Reggie Not coming back after all....

Fri Aug 24, 2007 9:52 pm

After two weeks of pushing his body to see how it might react to the punishment of an NBA season, Miller told The Star late Thursday he has decided he will not make a comeback with the Boston Celtics or anybody else.
"That's it,'' he said by telephone from his home in Malibu, Calif. "Physically, I know I could have done it. But mentally, when you do something like this, you've either got to be all in or all out. And I've decided I'm all out.
"Earlier today (Thursday), I was ready to come back. I was going to do it. But then I flew back here, I thought about it, I talked to a lot of people, and honestly, most people told me I should come back. Charles (Barkley), Mark (Jackson), Doug (Collins), they all said I should do it. And when I was back in Indy this week (for the Peyton Manning charity bowling event), people on the streets, they'd tell me to do it.
"But as the day went on, I just realized I wasn't ready mentally to put myself through the grind again.''
Miller, the NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers, retired after the 2005 NBA playoffs after 18 seasons with the Pacers. At the time, he said he was done with the game and was heading off to work in broadcasting and movie production. But when the Celtics added both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to a team that already included Paul Pierce, his interest was piqued.
Miller, who works on the NBA's TNT broadcasts and in film production, said he's retired for good this time. Really.
"Please write, I will never, ever, ever try something like this again,'' he said, laughing. "Any of the 30 teams in the NBA, if you're interested, please don't call.''

Good that did pull a Jordan make a comeback and tarnish his career a bit.

Sat Aug 25, 2007 8:04 am

its impossible to tarnish his career

Sat Aug 25, 2007 9:41 am

LOL well not tarnish, but detract from it a bit, considering how Jordan went out with that shot and all, and then he came back and couldn't do crap for the horrible wizards... now he's making questionable decisions for the Bobcats.

Maybe Jordan should try a TV gig too

Sat Aug 25, 2007 10:01 am

Big fucking surprise that is...of course he wasn't gonna come back.

Sat Aug 25, 2007 10:33 am

finally reality sets in

Sat Aug 25, 2007 11:03 am

Good to see that it finally hit him that he'll be an embarrassment if he comes back.

Sat Aug 25, 2007 12:11 pm

i still think he would have been ok, i dont think he would have ben an embarrassment at all. as for jordan, never thought he was bad also, he was not jordan but not bad. however i am just repeating myself on this issue

What did you expect him to do? Play all 5 positions and win a championship for them? He was the best player over 40 in the league ever, IMO. How much did he averaged?

Good thing that he will not comeback

Without looking it up, I think he averaged 22 points per game. I think he scored 55 points in one game, which is incredible for a 40-something year old.

Sun Aug 26, 2007 2:46 pm

He averaged just under 23 in his first season with the Wizards and 20 in the second. During the first he scored 51 points and followed it up with a 45 point game. In one of them he equalled his own record by scoring 23 consecutive points.

Mon Aug 27, 2007 8:41 am

still he was not god so he clearly ruined his career

Mon Aug 27, 2007 11:36 am

smart move by miller, 42 is too old to play in the NBA

Mon Aug 27, 2007 1:01 pm

Oh Jing... :)

Anyways, cant say I'd have cared much if he did come back so nothings changed for me since he has decided against it.

Mon Aug 27, 2007 3:55 pm

I don't undertsand how everyone is under the impression he can't play. I think in limited minutes with a team like Boston will be this season, he would have done fine.

But for him not to come back, at least puts a definite finality to his career... now we dont need toworry about any type of Miller comeback!

Who's everyone? :?

Tue Aug 28, 2007 8:26 am

Yay, Sit is back. Again.

My bad. Shouldn't have generalised. I should have written, 'A lot of people' instead of everyone.

Still, I would see Reggie with the Celts being fine behind the arc and just shooting 15-20 foot jumpers, with the trio, he'd definitely have open looks and can go trigger happy all he wants.
