In any other non-athletic profession in the world, 42 would still be young. You work for something your whole life, and then it's finished before your life is even half over. You cant blame him for wanting to hang onto it while he can.

Teams only have five players, and if you double one of the Big Three, or Even Two of them...At Least one of them will be open

your math is off here. if they double 1 of the big 3 how is one open?

That last statement was more geared towards the if you double two of them. sorry about the mixup

So,in case Reggie will comeback he will not wear 31.(Cedric Maxwell wore that one).

He's also bad at doing those. Below average at best.

I don't think he should come back...it would just spoil his entire career...although winning a championship would be sweet...

again, who would it spoil it for? you? some other fan? would it spoil it for him? i guess thats the only real question, cause honestly why should he care what you or anyone else thinks about it?

I'd like to see it happen, but it would sort of be a bummer he didn't only play for one team, but it would certainly bring in more fans and make it more entertaining for everyone. It's much better than bringing in a guy who only dunks on people, like James White or Dahntay Jones. Whatever makes Ray Allen happy.

Many fans do tend to get too infatuated with the idea of the storybook ending for athletes and to see them make comebacks and play fewer minutes or at a lesser level than we're accustomed doesn't go hand-in-hand with that concept. In the grand scheme of things it shouldn't matter but I think it comes down to the way we hold professional athletes in such reverence. We hold a certain mental image of them and we don't want anything to interfere with it, even though their past accomplishments cannot be erased.

thats probably it though i still say it does not ruin anything, sometimes they just wanna play. also, like i have said many times before, i still think alot of these players when they unretire are still better than half the nba.

Well, I'd say it does ruin some fans' perspective/mental image because few athletes who come back at an advanced age (at least in pro athlete terms) can live up to the high standard they set in their prime, but that's just something a fan has to deal with. You're right though, it doesn't ruin their career since their past accomplishments cannot be erased. Their career numbers can take a bit of dive though which is perhaps what some people are referring to when talking about comebacks tarnishing careers and legacies.

Well, per today's news, Reggie is officially NOT coming back, He said that physically he was probably able, but he didn't know if he could mentally handle the stress of the 82 game season, He also said that he hopes teams "lose his number"...lawl...

I'm very happy with Reggie's decision...He didn't do what some do, he realized that he wouldn't be able to handle the stress of the game, so he didn't push it...I think that too many athletes do kind of dimenish their legacies by coming back when they aren't able to compete at that high of a level of competition. I don't think someone ruins their legacy when they comeback if they can still compete on that level (ala Mike, who did extremely well, and was outhustlin the 20 year olds on the court, and was schoolin the players who had his posters on their walls when they were growin up) I'm glad that Reggie could step back and say to himself "I can't play at that level, for that long, anymore" I won't come back. :D

(Y) (Y) For Reggie!! :D

I believe he would have performed well, though given his minutes would be limited in a reserve role his numbers would not have been attention grabbing (though no doubt solid for the amount of time he would have probably seen). I'm sure he would have liked to have won a championship but I would say that his decision suggets he's more or less satisfied with his accomplishments and comfortable with the way his career concluded.

Interesting while it lasted, but we can now cross him off the list of players attempting comebacks. Still, Penny's back, Allan Houston has decided to go ahead with a comeback attempt and Oakley continues to shop his services to a variety of teams so the comeback subplot continues.
