I'l say, chuck in any athletic player that hasn't proven anything and you have got yourself a lottery pick.

you somehow forgot our budding superstar Darius Miles who will be missing this whole year; Marcus Fizer, the ultimate NBDL player; Chris Mihm the best player on the Lakers rosterin picking up fouls; Khalid El-Amin, the Husky Husky who didn't do much after winning a nat'l title; and also Chris Carrawell, an oddity that a senior form Duke doesn't even make an NBA team.

I included Miles, Fizer and Mihm. And well, theres not much to say about the other two.
Thu Nov 23, 2006 7:24 am
ah I missed them somehow... confusing how you put 2-4
Thu Nov 23, 2006 7:26 am
Because they are all underachievers

That is hillarious, but if you look, excluding 4 of the first 5 picks who good went in the LBJ, Melo, Bosh, D-Wade draft. Obviously I forgot the year.

I hate to say it but andrew bogut, even though he's still good, wasn't that smart. I mean the bucks could have gotten chris paul.

Andrea Bargnani is actually having quite a good rookie campaign if you ask me. He's definetly got skills.
10.1 points in just over 23 minutes is great for a rookie. That's 17.6 points per 40 minutes. And consider that this is the first half of his first season. He will only improve on this and get better. You can argue whether #1 was too high for him til the cows come home, but one thing is for sure, he's definetly not a bust.
For record, he is averaging 1.5 block and 6.3 rebs per 40 mins also. This is in his first 46 games as an NBA player. If only he improved his shooting percentages (currently at .407), he'd actually be an efficient player, haha. But still, a rookie who consistantly gets double figures in scoring off the bench is quite a good effort.
Here is something very interesting:
Dirk Nowtizki's rookie season: 47 games. 8.2 points in 20.1 minutes. 3.4 rebs, 0.6 stls, 0.6 blks, .405 FG%, .206 3pt%, .773 FT%, 1.55 TO, 2.20 PFs.
Andrea Bargnani's rookie season: 46 games. 10.1 points in 23. 1 minutes, 3.6 rebs, 0.5 stl, 0.9 blk, .407 FG%, .340 3pt%, .833 FT%, 1.41 TO, 2.70 PFs.
Dirk Nowitzki had a freakishly similar rookie season to Andrea Bargnani. It doesn't mean Andrea will turn out to be the same player, but it's a pretty damned good indicator that they are/were the same kind of player coming out of the draft. So i wouldn't call Andrea a bust just yet.

pretty much the first thing i thought of when i saw this thread

Nick, the one thing that goes against that analysis (not that I'm questioning Bargnani's skill) is the fact that Dirk was 20 in his rookie year while Bargnani is 2 years older than when Dirk was a rookie.

even still, its kinda dumb to call someone the worst first pick ever when thier first season is not even finished yet.

I agree...for goodness sakes, the season is only half over! Some people have absolutely patience

He's definitely not the worst. I rushed into things.. Michael Olowokandi I think deserves the honor... Barg is far from it. Rookie of the Month etc.. You may lock this topic.. Thomas is seeing less minutes and his less noticeable this season..
