Mike Miller = Best Outside Shooter: Grizz New Style Working

Thu Jan 04, 2007 1:51 pm

Sorry, I had just had to say it. In the past 3 games under the new coach, he has shot 23/34 from downtown. For some odd reason, he has never been recognized for his shooting because he never was sent to all-star weekend for hte 3-point shootout (at least not as a Grizzlie). He lit the Warriors up for 33 tonight on 9-12 shooting from downtown. Can anyone prove me wrong? Because I believe this is definitely hard to argue against. He's shooting 44% from downtown for the season and remember he is attempting more than anybody thats ahead of him percentage wise. The closest person to him is Luther Head with 154 and he shooting 49%.

Also, it looks like Barone wasn't all talk when he said Rudy wasn't coming off the floor. He got his first start tonight (under Barone) and played 35 minutes, while getting 22 points on 8-15 shooting and 8 boards. And every since the new coach stepped in, Stromile has been another man. He is averaging 18ppg and 10.6rpg under the 3 games Barone has coached. So, with Stromile emerging and Rudy about to make his run towards ROY and Mike Miller continuing to shoot lights out, how do the Grizzlies look from here on out? And Pau still hasn't fully recovered from his injury, but still putting up solid numbers along with Lowry and Roberts coming back sometime this month or next month.

No, I don't expect the Grizzlies to win 40 straight games :P , but they are looking more promising since the coaching change. I've never seen Stromile play with the type of ethusiasm he has played with the past 3 games. Like I said before, Fratello wasn't a bad coach, but he wasn't the type of coach that the Grizzlies needed. Now, since they are playing at a fast pace, things are looking ALOT better than they were when Fratello was coaching. And I also know that the Grizzlies last games have been against the Raptors (no Bosh), Rockets (no Yao) and the Warriors (no Richardson or Ellis), but if they played those games a few weeks ago, all of them would've been lost guarenteed.

Good for them (Y) Indy is going to ban you now for making a thread not-related to the Pacers.

Sorry but i think its too late for them to make some sort of run, most teams are on fire at the moment and i dont think the Grizz can match some of the form other teams are in like the Mavs, Suns, Spurs and Jazz.

Good on em tho for making a bold move but i dont think it was needed seeing as their season is pretty much doomed already and if they start winning games it puts them out of Oden contention.

Thu Jan 04, 2007 3:18 pm

Right, so they should just throw the towel in hopes of nabbing Oden.

The Grizzlies have a lot of young talent as it is. I don't think they need to drop games just to pick up more. They don't need a big man nearly as much as they need a PG imo, so they would probably trade down anyway. Oden could be the next Kwame Brown, or Jonathan Bender...you never know.

I'm curious though as to why Hakim Warrick isn't getting much PT. Can't he and Gasol play on the floor at the same time? He wasn't even getting a whole lot of time under Fratello either even though I think he's been pretty good when playing.

My thoughts exactly. Having seen only a few Grizz games this season any fool should be able to notice the vast inprovement to Hakim's game. He has amazing athleticism, always has. But he must of really spent a lot of time on his jumper, he is knocking that down very well. I can really see this guy turning into the complete package. From the few instances i've had to see Warrick i can almost say i'd take him over Pau, but it's just too soon to say. Looking forward to seeing more of him under the new coach.

Steve Nash > all shooters

Yes! Finally Rudy gets the playing time he deserves (Y)

The Grizz won't be in the playoffs, but I think they may get close, like 10th or thereabout. Mafia, do you know whats up with Eddie Jones? Is Rudy's starting job permanent? If it is, he will be R.O.Y :D

I believe when Barone got the job, he said something to the effect of Rudy never coming off the floor, so this starting job and PT may be there for good, and certainly thrusts him to the forefront of the RoY race.

Fri Jan 05, 2007 4:31 am

He's got the PT now it's time for him to shine. SHINE YOUNG ONE! SHINE!

I'm not in to over-hyped players but I can't believe he slipped to 8th and then traded away. Gay would've been the perfect replacement for that douchebag they call T-mac.

Mike Miller has always been considered a deadly shooter...West says he gets more calls from teams about Miller trades than any other. When the Grizzlies need a buzzer beater, it's usually Miller shooting the ball.

I love the guy, he's not athletic but he plays hard.

or at least hakim warrick shud be traded...if he isnt worth a starter..just wanna see more playin time

Fri Jan 05, 2007 2:04 pm

Warrick's PT has went down mainly because of the production that Stro is giving. As I see it, Barone likes to play he and Stro' together to provide that athletic shot blocking duo which has worked lately. They play well together when they're running. If Pau ended up being traded, then Warrick would probably end up becoming the starting PF especially if the Grizzlies were actually going after Oden. Then they would be able to sign a big name FA in the off-season. Basically, the Grizzlies are in a real good situation right now, they are in the Oden sweepstakes with a team that has good young talent. They will have money in the off-season to sign someone that can make a change towards the team, and they have players that teams want (i.e. Miller, Gasol, Eddie's contract, Warrick) and could get a lottery pick and some young talent out of it. So, lets see what happens.

He's a great addition to my fantasy league. I hope Barone's style is what Mike Miller needed, and thus, he will help my fantasy league till the end of the season.

Otherwise, I have nothing else to say about Miller or the Grizzlies for that matter.

Sat Jan 06, 2007 8:48 am

Miller shot 9 threes with 12 attempts.
Carter attempted 20 times..

He's on a nice strike..

Sat Jan 06, 2007 10:35 am

Well I always thought that Mike Miller just needs to be given more chances to actually shoot the ball. Hes a great shooter and might become a piece of that new Memphis team, if they would actually snatch Oden.

Sat Jan 06, 2007 10:53 am

I always knew he was a shooter, Some of these coaches always want to restrict players from doing what they want to do (Uhhm, Rick Carlisle). Have some faith in your players and good things will come
