Arenas scores 54; Snaps Suns 15 game win-streak

Sat Dec 23, 2006 4:10 pm

GA's got 54 right now and just banked in a three in Raja Bell's mouth. The Wizards lead by 3 in overtime. If you guys recall, last summer he vowed to get 50 against each of his team USA coaches but later said he shouldn't have said it. Whatever way, I think he meant it. How about 50 and 60 in the same week. Arenas has been schooling Marion so far. The Suns have had Marion on Arenas and Arenas just shoots over him and can get him in the air at will.

Arenas hit an amazing scoop shot (jumping off the wrong foot) plus a foul to send the game into OT.

However, he doesn't have any assists.

Edit: Game over, 15 game winning streak gone. Arenas is nasty. Period.

Either you type monster fast or you had this topic prepared to post when the game ended.
Finally, the Suns streak is over but they had a good run. What a week for Arenas though with 54 and 60. Arenas is really an underrated player. Still can't believe the Warriors had Jamison, Hughes, and Arenas at one time yet loses them all and the 3 reunite in Washington.

now thats a true scorer (Y)

Sat Dec 23, 2006 5:14 pm

Not too shabby I say. I wouldnt say he is underrated though. Anybody who follows basketball knows he's really good. He's just not as overhyped as the other stars in the NBA.

Great game by Arenas...can't say that I'm a fan of the forcing a foul by bumping into the defender strategy, but whatever puts bread on the table

Raja Bell - 0/8 on 3-pointers. 1/8 would have been the difference in the game. Argh.

Just saw the recap on SC... pretty ridiclious game.

Sat Dec 23, 2006 7:10 pm

This isn't worthy of a new thread.

Anyhow, I'm sick of all the focus on the individual in the NBA. Case in point, this Christmas rivalry is being advertised as Wade vs. Kobe, and as a Heat fan, I'm looking forward to the Heat vs. Lakers. I should watch the Euroleague

OT, Jing what's the prob with App state? I might be going there if I don't get accepted to Carolina.

Sat Dec 23, 2006 8:14 pm

Nothing happened. Everyone just move along, nothing to see here.

Sat Dec 23, 2006 8:56 pm

More amazing is Steve Nash's 42 point performance. At that age, that position, that physical attribute.. 42 IS A LOT! And don't forget he handed out 12 assists (11 is Kobe's season high). I really don't know who's better to have on a team.

Anyway, I pray he won't get MVP III, please. 8-)

Sat Dec 23, 2006 9:08 pm

Wow extreme scoring, hell prob be in 2nd in the scoring ranks now behind Melo he may have even passed him, Arenas usually goes on and off if he becomes a consistent 30+ ppg scorer then he would get recognized more and the Wizards arent really a dominate force.

Sat Dec 23, 2006 10:48 pm

Nash must be leading the MVP race at the minute. No other people is playing like him.

I don't know about Kobes 11 assists being the season high, I'm pretty sure Mr. Nash just had 20 assists like 2 weeks ago.

Or I was watching the game and on here at the same time.

Why not? The Suns had the longest win-streak in their franchise history snapped. Not only that but it was the Wizards who snapped it who have also snapped 5 other "record-long" winning streaks. Plus Gilbert Arenas technically had his "first" 50 point game and he did say he wanted to get 50 against his team USA coaches that cut him.

Heck, what is worthy of a new thread these days? Everything could go into the Official NBA Season Thread, right? The threads are practical but they start defeating the whole purpose a "new thread" button. Now bow down unto Agent Zero before he smites you with his almighty jumpshot.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 1:17 am

Does this deserve a thread? Anyone can score 60 against the Suns.

Yeah, especially someone like Sarunas Jasikevicius.

It's quite hard to go for 60 points no matter who the opponent. And it sounds like Arenas did a pretty damn good job putting up those 54 tonight, even with Marion apparently guarding him for a while. I'd take his performance in fantasy any day, above 50% shooting, 50% from treyland, 100% from the line, and 54 points... whew! Pretty sick.

The crazy thing is that he only shot 6 free throws on the entire night. Usually when players put up 40-50+ points, they take like 20 trips to the line... I'm assuming Arenas was sorta ball hogging a bit and jacking up some shots, but luckily they were going in. Either way, an amazing performance by Gilbert and quite an exciting game between the two teams, so of course it deserves a thread!

Suns usually do a decent job of holding the other team's best player to around an average game. The real killer wasn't Arenas...it was Caron Butler.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 1:45 am

Well, Gilbert is one of my favourite players and all, but...a 54 point game against the Suns (a fast tempo, many shots and possesions), does not IMO deserve a thread.

Btw, Sarunas doesnt need to score 50 to win a game.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 1:48 am

in the adidas commercial Gilbert is saying we are fooled unto thinking his shoes did help him in scoring, but we're no fools?

Sun Dec 24, 2006 3:35 am

another great game by Arenas against a big-time team....

as for Nash, you look at his numbers & they are better than last year & much better than when he got first MVP award....you can argue he shouldn't have got it last 2 years, but you can't argue with his play....although I honestly think Boozer has been more of a MVP, but I'm luvin' what Nash is doing once again....

I'd hand him a 3rd MVP myself if he could make Sean Marks a regular rotation player....then I would agree that he's the league's MVP....otherwise it'll be up in the air again....as long as Lebron doesn't win it....I'd prefer to see a more sharing Kobe win it, since his team is winning more....shame Melo got suspended as would've been good to see him run for it....I guess Duncan is in the game once again....ahh well, too early for all this talk....

all that being said, looked like a great game to watch, wish they had of covered it over here :|

It's just not worthy of a new thread. There are so many great selfish individual performances in the NBA, I honestly don't think every last one of them needs to be glorified.

Plus, Gilbert Arenas really gets on my nerves. He's always making up some reason for why he's the underdog and has a "chip" on his shoulder. Couple that with the extremely obnoxious Adidas commercial he does, I've heard his name more than enough recently.

maybe your opinion is insignificant

it wasn't just the 50pt game, it also snapped the suns franchise winning streak. Also to score 60 and 54 in the same week is a pretty good accomplishment. If it was Iverson.. fine.. he has done that before, but arenas previous career high was 47 i think. To break it twice in a week is pretty good.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 7:25 am

Well somebody got to score on the Wizards. . GA is basically unstoppable right now

Sun Dec 24, 2006 9:30 am

Fabulous and friendly persona and an amazing scorer. That's one helluva rare combination.

Mon Dec 25, 2006 1:30 am

He's the East's replacement for Iverson. He just throws it up soooooo much every night. I have to give him props for putting great numbers put he's the team's point guard. He must remember that Jamison and Butler still exist and they could win the division.
