You could babble about that...and then there's the fact that STERLING HAS NEVER FAILED TO MATCH THE RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL.

Needless to say, smart move by the Clippers. It's a shame they couldn't pick up Arenas to replace Miller.

Wed Jul 30, 2003 7:24 pm

great move but now they need to resign Andre Miller as well or else this team is gonna break without Andre Miller or Gilbert Arenas...

Wed Jul 30, 2003 7:27 pm

They won't likely match Miller, he didn't fit in their system. Looks like Jaric may get the start.

Miami will likely go after Odom now, maybe some other teams as well. The Clippers won't likely let him go either though.

Wed Jul 30, 2003 8:01 pm

I guess Miller will be the first player who has been left to walk after signing an offer sheet.

Wed Jul 30, 2003 8:01 pm

i really wanted to see magette in utah,so he could be a real star! now i think utah may be one of those teams who will go for odom :)

Wed Jul 30, 2003 8:10 pm

It's been a tough offseason for Utah. Not only have they lost two of the greatest players in NBA history, they've failed to land guys like Brad Miller and Corey Maggette. They probably wouldn't object to Odom, but the Clippers should consider matching any offer sheets.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 1:16 am

in utah doesn't get any good free agents i say they gonna have a good chance at landing the 1st draft pick this year, cause now there best player is like Matt Harpring

Thu Jul 31, 2003 2:16 am

Andrei Kirilenko?

I doubt Utah will be near as bad as everyone thinks. They'll still play better defense than three-fourths of the league, they are actually pretty solid at each position aside from Shooting Guard, even if Stevenson is working hard this year. Denver and Memphis are probably still a year away from being better out West.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:39 am

yeah, andrei is the man in utah, he's gonna get some great numbers this year. (Y)

Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:50 am

andrei kirilenko rulez!

Thu Jul 31, 2003 1:36 pm

Utah probably won't be terrible this year, but losing Stockton and Malone unquestionably weakens their roster. Failing to sign one of the better free agents doesn't help either. They can still probably compete for a low playoff seed, but it would be quite a feat to live up to the performance of the late Malone/Stockton era.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:36 pm

i'm trying to convince myself that utah can compete for the last playoff spot but can't. they look lottery bound to me..

as of right now their offseason has been disappointing. there still is time and plenty of cap space to throw at somebody, but who's there to go after/who wants to come there now? a trade is a possible scenario but who will they offer, assuming andrei, stevenson, and harpring are untouchable??

andrei and harpring are pretty talented and make nice complimentary players. but i think a good part of their success can be attributed to stockalone. and they play the same position. stevenson is very athletic and has the potential to be good but hasn't proven anything yet. mark jackson is solid but for how much longer can he keep it? and it's a good chance he'll be traded to a contending team. can borchardt & lopez stay healthy? pavlovic seems like a decent pick so far...

spurs, kings, lakers, mavs, twolves, suns, rockets.. 7 solid teams right there most likely to make the playoffs. that leaves the rest fighting over the last spot. blazers, clippers, warriors, sonics IMO are better then the jazz and will battle it out for the 8th seed. that leaves memphis & nuggets. grizz may even be in a playoff run as West has almost put a team that has 2 decent players for each position.

the jazz are a good defensive team, i'll give you that. i could be wrong here but from the looks of the current roster and a powerhouse western conference, the jazz look like they'll be contending for a good draft pick

Thu Jul 31, 2003 7:09 pm

There is no way the Jazz are playoof bound this year. They would be lucky to make ther top 10. The Lakers, Wolves, Spurs, Kings, Mavs, Blazers and Suns pretty much have the top 6 seeds locked. Then there's the Rockets that could be unstoppable this year. The Clips who resigned all two of their stars and also picked up Arenas as a great replacement for Dre. The Sonics should be decent and I think Allen is going to have a big year. The Warriors should be competetive and are still more talented than the Jazz. The Nuggets who by adding Dre and Melo automaticallly put themselves in the race for that 8th spot are also more talented than the current Jazz team. Like limpdilznik said I think the Jazz will be contending more for draft picks.

didnt arenas sign with the wizards????

Thu Jul 31, 2003 7:39 pm

So he did, my bad. Was it Claxton they signed??

Thu Jul 31, 2003 7:59 pm

Yeah, Claxton signed (or agreed to sign) with the Warriors.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 10:26 pm

hey, there's anyway a little chance to see Utah being the Detroit of the western conference : no star in the team but hard workers who can get a playoffs spot.

Thu Jul 31, 2003 10:48 pm

They might be able to pull it off if they were in the Eastern Conference as the Pistons are, but they're in the West where you can miss the playoffs with a winning record.

Fri Aug 01, 2003 4:57 am

it would probably be better for utah if they royally sucked and got a high pick, they wont be going far in the playoffs considering they somehow make it.

Fri Aug 01, 2003 7:18 pm

I think Jerry Sloan will want his team to compete though. I can't see them tanking the season, but I can see them coming up short due to their vastly different roster.
