New offers.... for Antoine Walker

Postby paul_pierce_the_truth on Wed Jul 16, 2003 7:11 am

ESPN just reported the Knicks have offered:

Michael Sweetney
Kurt Thomas
Charlie Ward
Frank Williams

for

Antoine Walker

If I were Danny Ainge I would do this if:

Charlie Ward can be bought out, cut, resigned for a veteran's minimium, Frank Williams is actually an NBA player.

I'm good with Sweetney and Kurt Thomas.

the knicks would be out of their mind, four for one? There should be more players coming from boston's side, and why get rid off sweetney he could be quite good, though it wouldnt be such a bad deal for boston, 'toine has done all he can for the celts and they would get young talent in sweetney then and two pg's, what they are defenitaly lacking, and not to forget thomas, who would move back to pf i think, but what at c then? Perkins? Don't' know if this will happen though

How would that work cap-wise? Kurt Thomas and Ward make a lot, and so does Sweetney as a first round pick. Frank Williams was a first round pick as well, so he's got a decent sized contract. Walker can't be making that much....

I think it's close, but it also might involve buying out Ward's contract.

Thomas makes like 6 or 6.5
Sweetney would make like 2 or so
Williams doesn't make much maybe 1.5
Ward makes like 5 or 5.5

Walker makes about 13 or 13.5

Sean Deveney of Sporting News (www.tsn.com/nba) said the Celtics aren't interested in dealing Toine...

They wouldn't be able to trade Sweetney until somewhere in december anyway. And IMO, the Knicks give up too much. They could have Sweetney shoot 3s all day and feed him McDonald's for a few years and have Antoine Walker II.

i would do this trade if i was Danny. their frontcourt would be so much stronger if they took this trade. Thomas can get 15 & 10 on any given night, an agressive low post player the C's desperately need; Ward is a very decent backup at PG and Williams would keep developing; and Mike Sweetney would develop into a very good big man in the near future. with this trade, it also opens up more points for the rest of the celtics players to score, like Tony Delk, he should at least average 15 per game. this could also give C's more variety on the offense, they could either go inside(Thomas, Sweetney, Battie) or outside (Pierce, Delk, Bremer, Ward, Banks). why doesnt danny just throw in Bruno Sundov as well, then Scott Layden might add Houston , McDyess , Sprewell, lampe, three goats , a vending machine and one of Walt Frazier's suits to the deal along with the 5000 players he is already offering for Walker

the only way id like this deal to go ahead is if the celtics added Kendrick Perkins in there offer, but thats just not going to happen.

damm the knicks are getting desperate to trade someone....
is there anything in the nba rules that says that an nba team cant trade fans? cos the knicks have loads of those, they could trade say... 500 fans to the clippers for Lamar Odom ... lol

Knicks are giving up wayyyyyyy too much talent for Walker in this deal.... I'd rather see a Spree for Walker than KT, Ward, Williams & Sweetney..Sweetney got some potential in him!

frank williams played his heart out for the knicks summer team showing that he has the talent to be the knicks back up this year, the knicks would be stupid to give up on him now, especially since the other side of the trade ( mcdyess) went bust.

Yes, Frankie has a good upside so does Sweets and we cant let both guys shipped to Boston like that. Both can help our team in the future. I don't care if Frankie hesistate at times but he can improve on it.

With the impending acquisition of Keith Van Horn, the Knicks might decide not to continue pursuing Walker.
