Malone's goin to the lakers

It would be quite funny if they lost again - and considering that they now have the biggest loser in the NBA, Karl Malone, anything can happen Was it John Stockton who had the most playoff games (or games) without a championship, followed by Malone? If that's the case Karl Malone would now be the losingest active player in the NBA... or longest active without a Championship that is. Either way, the Mailman jinx is commin to LA.

maybe david stern makes a new rule! if team has 4 stars and a coach who has atleast 9 rings can use 4 balls and oppsite team can use 1!imagine atleast 8 points with one attack to the basket!

Did the Mailman ever seriously consider the offer from the Jazz, or even spend much time talking to them? Loyalty works both ways - you'd think he'd give more time to the team that gave him an opportunity to have such a superb career, put up with all those public trade demands and whatnot.

Yeah I agree with you there. However, they say Larry Miller is 100% behind the deal and is grateful for everything Malone's done for his team and thinks he deserves to go somewhere else to try to win the championship.
He wouldn't fit very well in Utah next year anyways w/o stockton.

Yeah, it's nice to see that Larry Miller is understanding of the situation. Still, I think Malone should have given the Jazz a little more of his time. You're right, it wouldn't be an ideal situation in Utah with Stockton gone, but I don't like the current trend of star players playing for one team for over a decade, before playing a final year or two elsewhere.

The Jazz never really put an offer on the table for Malone. Besides, they practically did everything but ask him to leave by telling him that they are going to rebuild and winning a championship was not the biggest priority. Malone also asked to be paid $8 million, which is what Stockton made in his last season, so it was a fair demand but the Jazz dind't want any part of it. Also, Malone is a free agent now because Utah didn't extend his contract the last year or two and wanted him to be a free agent. As for loyality, for years in the early 90's Malone, and Stockton, took massive pay cuts(compared with their market value) so that the team could save some money.

Oh, and Andrew, most, if not all, of the star players you're talking about (Jordan, Ewing, Olajowaun, Pippen, Malone, Payton) were forced by management to leave, not because they wanted to.

I believe Ewing offered himself as a trade commodity so the Knicks could rebuild. Olajuwon had his differences with management, but I think the Rockets wanted to keep him.

I understand the reasons behind some of the stars/former stars changing teams, but it's still something I don't like to see happen, no matter what the reason.

Ewing wanted to play on and stay with the Knicks but New York decided that it needed to get faster so they trade Ewing for Rice and acquire Mark Jackson Hakeem also wanted to continue playing but the Rockets felt that he couldn't contribute anymore so they let him go.

Finally, I whole heartedly agree with you that star players should stay on the same team for their whole careers. Heck, if it was up to me, Shaq and Penny would be in Orlando, Kemp and Payton in Seattle, T-Mac and Vince in Toronto. And Patrick, Hakeem, MJ, and Scottie would have stayed with their respective teams and retired with those teams.
