It would be a surprise if it is the official results. Kobe's a popular choice in the media so I assume if he doesn't end up winning, he'll be top three in a close vote.

The announcement varies on the winner. If it's someone on a team likely to make it a long way in the Playoffs, they might wait until the second round or even the Conference Finals, so they can make the presentation before a game. At least that's how it's been done in the past.
