"Hiya kids. Here is an important message from your Uncle Bill. Don't buy drugs. Become a pop star, and they give you them for free. "

I guess he needed the drugs as a way to escape the ridicule he had recieved for his shit performance at the slam dunk contests.

hmmm..... so... heres the breakdown from what I've read in this thread.
-Birdman started doing drugs to relieve stress after last years dunk contest.
-Birdman started doing drugs before last years dunk contest, hence the 100 missed dunks.
-Birdman started doing drugs after last years dunk contest to try and enhance his performance in the next year's (this year's) dunk contest.

Reporters of a Croatian basketball magazine who met Andersen in Denver, wrote that he was seriously high at the time.
"Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team." (Scottie Pippen, #33)

This snippet from Patricia Bender's NBA Daily offers some possibilities:

Patricia Bender wrote:The NBA dismissed Chris Andersen (NO) from the league for violating the
league's substance abuse program. As he had not been suspended previously
for performance enhancing drugs (ie, steroids), he was mostly likely
tossed for a positive test for "drugs of abuse", which could be any of
methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, opiates (including heroin, codeine,
morphine), and PCP. The NBA Players Association will automatically appeal
the dismissal. If the dismissal is upheld, Andersen can not apply for
reinstatement for 2 years.
