Karl Malone overrated??
I can't agree here, you have just to look at his stats to understand that he was a GREAT player... I haven't seen any other PF that shooted like Malone, except for Nowitzki.
Malone didn't win any championship because he played for 16 years in a bad team, Stockton and Hornacek were the only good teammates. And after all he played the NBA Finals twice, with a bad team.

A good example for overrated player is Josh Smith or maybe Jason Richardson.

Well, my honest opinion about the most overrated players in the nba:

1 ) Ron Artest - I could be hours talking about why he's such a bad player. Let's make it short: He really thinks he's a shooter, I don't know why, but he just thinks that. He's a strong and good defender, when he knows where he has to be on defense. And a pro can have that conflictive attitude, he seems like those unmature NFL players that make fouls when time isn't running. If he needs to shoot 30 times to get 17 points... we're not in the good way, etc.

PS: I still ask myself how could he be selected in the third best NBA starting five of 2004 season...

2 ) Jamaal Crawford - He's so far the worst defender in the NBA, and that is not so good as you can understand. He can't play well at PG because he's too selfish. He's a pretty good shooter, that hits clutch shots, but... sometimes he just disappears of the game. Knicks major problem now.

3 ) Peja Stojakovic - Well, this serbian player is a lot smart and is a great shooter, but ... what Serbian player isn't like him ? they're all smart and good shooters, he just can shoot more than the rest. I don't say he's a bad player, because I would be wrong, but I think is overrated.

4 ) Steve Francis - Not a shooter, not a great defender, not so smart playing... he has ability, quickness and tallent, but he should try to be a better player in another way, I don't know which one, but another one

5 ) Quentin Richardson - He's one of the coolest players, and people will hate me if I say this , but I think hes very overrated. Q is really irregular and so much times takes the wrong decision. If he focuses more in games, he can be an all-star, because Q is a great rebounder, a great shooter, and the crowd always loves him.

I think that guys like Carmelo can't be overrated, because... they're guys that just started with this, they have to progress, learn , and get better. People spects so much of some star rookies. Will happen the same with Marvin : why he isn't playing well on Hawks ? Was he a wrong draft choice ? nah, nothing of all that. He's just young and new with this.

Magius if you base your overrated stuff on winning championshisp, well I can safely say that everyone that played in the nineties and didn't play with Jordan were overrated!!!

They're all better than you, so quit whining... Ewing, Olajuwon, Shaq, Mutombo etc. are a dying breed of big guys who can play with their backs to the basket... No one backs down at the hoop any more.

Debating about who is better Garnett or Duncan is totally pointless... They are both very good and both play it great, could even be the two best "power forwards" in the game ever. Garnett fills up the stat sheet a little bit more, but if he had the help that Duncan has had all his career around him, well he might not have to do everything by himself...

Amare is underrated... Nash got the MVP with 15/11 stats... What do stats have to do with anything really??? Nash singlehandedly transformed the team from a 29 win nightmare into a league leading 62 win running machine that no one could stop. Had Joe Johnson been at 100% during the play-offs I doubt the Spurs chances of stopping them in the western conference finals... This READS MVP to me with humongous characters!

And Spurs have always played better than the sum of it's parts... Pop has something going there and is extremely careful about who he brings into the mix. They haven't had that much FA traffic in the last couple of years. Chemistry is very volatile! Someone sets off a spark and the whole thing goes up in flames... Minnesota didn't have the chemistry although they had the guys...

What's overrated and underrated anyway... They're all great ball players (although the yanks can't shoot the three at all)...

and your right, overrated and underrated is obviously in the eye of the beholder. i could say someone's overrated based on anothers beliefs, yet some other guy could come in who rates him correctly, sees me call him overrated, and shout "foul! underrated!"

it really is a waste. but if theres one thing i do believe it is, AGAIN, if you are a star player who hasnt won a championship, then you should not be considered on par with a star player who has won a championship.

i repeat. houston allows the third least points per game. detroit and san antonio are 1 and 2. wallace, duncan, yao. consistent presence on both ends is valuable and underrated.

To this, Houston allows a low PPG because they play a slow paced game, not because they're very good defensively. The Raptors when Kevin O'neil was there were one of the Top teams in the league in PPG allowed and FG defense, but they really weren't that good defensively. Their's a difference between being good defensively, and just slowing the game down so much that it makes it look like you are

fgrept, you are right, but can you honestly say that yao ming is not a big reason that they're that they put up those numbers defensively, regardless of whether they are slow or fast paced.

Shoot 30 times to get 17 points? In his last full season of 03-04 he averaged 18 points a game while shooting 42 percent. In the 7 games he played in 2005 as the number one option, he averaged 24.6 points on 50 percent shooting. So I don't really see your logic there.

If anything Ron is underrated. He's a guy who can easily score 25 points a game but chooses to use his energy on defense. He averages 5-6 rebounds for a game, and he is a perimiter player. Not many people not named Tracy or LeBron can do that.

Not to mention the fact that he can hold any person in the league to at least 7 points under their scoring average on any given night.

He averaged 6 rebounds once, and it was for 7 games last year, many players can have great stretches, 7 games is far from being a whole season, his numbers in 7 games should not be taken as how he'd produce as a first option through a season. Stephen Jackson also averaged like 22 PPG when JO was out.

Also I'm pretty sure their's a lot of perimeter players that can average 5-6 RPG, just to name a few, Jefferson, Maggette, Pierce, Carter, Kobe, J-Rich, Josh Howard, Josh Smith, Simmons, Iguodala, G.Wallace, Wade, Q-Rich etc etc.....

He's averaged 6.3 rebounds per game in his playoff career. I'd say those 26 playoff games he's been in have been pretty important games.

Stephen Jackson average 18.7 points per game for the entire season last year, so I don't know what point you're trying to make. Stephen Jackson has consistently shown that he can score 18, 19 a game.
