Las Vegas to host 2007 All-Star Weekend

Damn, I had actually thought of going to it, but I found out that I'd be a few months shy of 21 years of age...

I just got back from Las Vegas and I don't want to go back for a long time

When I went there I also had that feeling, it's kinda of overwhelming.
For a week or two it's fine, but more than that, no thanks.

Why will Memphis get it in 2008?

Mainly because the growth of the city and the new arena they have which is considered as one of the best in the league right now. They were in the running with Las Vegas for '07 too.

In Vegas? Good idea. Tourists are going to Vegas to gamble and watching the all-star weekend. The tickets are going to soldout for sure.

Global expansion is one thing, and as Null pointed out, its good to play pre season games there. But apart from the playoffs and the occasional regular season blockbuster (shaq vs kobe christmas day), the ASW is the premier even on the NBA calander.

i'm not sure i can agree. ASW is a showcase of the league stars and what not. to me, it's more of a media event/show the world how "i love this game"/stern's further attempts to globalize the game to make more profits.

imo, the premiere event has always been the nba finals. it's normally the highest rated game/series on the nba calendar. behind the last cheers episode, i believe the bulls-suns final series (i forget which game sorry) was the 2nd most watched event on NBC ever
