Turiaf's Surgery Goes Well

Laker draft pick Ronny Turiaf underwent successful open-heart surgery Tuesday at Stanford University Medical Center.

Turiaf, 22, will sit out next season as part of his recovery from a six-hour procedure to repair an enlarged aortic root, the beginning part of the body's largest artery, the aorta. Turiaf's aortic valve was functioning normally and did not need to be replaced, part of the reason for a positive prognosis.

Great news :D

Great news, It's gonna be a while til he can play though. My brother had a heart surgery too. Took him at least a year of no physical activity.

Crap, he'll sit out next season? Well, it's better than him dying I suppose.

He may not be able to play at all. If the aortic valve had to be replaced, then he would definitely be prematurely retired. Now there's hope.

Turiaf is a Warrior... he is intelligent, speaks 4 langyages, and declined declaring last year when he was a projected lottery pick in order to go back to college and get his degree. He'll definitely come out on top in his life, that is for sure... basketball or not. (Y)

 yes it is a thin line indeed... it's alright though, I'm sure there's some sort of hyperactive free agent they can sign instead.

Hehe, I didn't mean for the previous comment to come out as harshly as it did. It seems funny but it was quite rude. My bad.

So yeah, I'm happy he didn't die but I'm not too happy he'll be sitting out. Oh wells...hope he recovers in time for next season & best o'luck to him.

Good to hear. Hopefully the successful surgery will allow him to live out the dream so many of us had at one time or another, but more importantly allow him to live a long, healthy life.
