Dan stated those guys can Guard Shaq, not that they can stop him.
Anyone can guard Shaq, even with bad results, that's how it is.

Exactly, also the Lakers have won last 3 times using the same strategy, this time the Lakers are cooking a better dish, which will include other teams trying to stop Kobe and forgetting about Shaq who will always have his numbers, that's when the strategy will get back to old days.
EG wrote:a great guard will beat a great big man one-on-one for a few reasons...first of all he can shoot pretty much uncontested threes
EG, depends on who are you talking about. I don't think there's any guard who can stop a good post PF or C from scoring. You can ask Vince who "(even if you think he has no def, he does)" couldn't do much to stop Garnett in the All-Star, and
will happen to Kobe, MJ or T-mac the same thing. If those can't stop Garnett, I guess what would happen against Shaq. Those guards steal the ball when the players are distracted or looking for someone else to pass the ball, they don't steal the ball in the post when the PF or C are in action.
Shooting 3s, well, none of those are 3 point shooters, it's a matter of who day was, if that was their day, maybe they will be hitting those but if not, they will be wasting opportunities. R. Allen, A. Houston, R. Miller, P. Stojakovic, W. Person, S. Kerr, none of those are defensive guys and are the guys who most likely would hit the 3s if they shoot it. If they have to guard a Center or PF, I don't think they will be in advantage.
EG wrote:When Nike held the king of the court tourney they invited a number of players of different sizes and positions...the Finals were between two shooting guards...
Didn't watch that tourney but if you are talking about (one on one), that's not the NBA, that's why you have a Center or PF, shooting guards or Point Guards, even Small forwards would play around the 3 line, not Centers & PFs,
but notice that the advantage is not the 3 points but the dribbling abilities.
