I think Damon might be getting a big head. I think he's thinking that since he shot pretty well and had a decent performance this year (all from Shaq's help), teams will want him.

i think jones will come back in miami

There's a pretty good chance that someone needing a shooter (Cavs, Nuggets) will overpay for him, so it's agood business decision in my books. Basketball-wise, I think he won't get better numbers playing somewhere where Shaq is not manning the 5...

Looks like the Heat are doing the right things to help them win their "championship" next season.
Fri Jul 01, 2005 12:02 pm
hes leaving like his 8th team???? He wants to break Jim Jackson record of teams played on
Fri Jul 01, 2005 1:06 pm
Shot "pretty" well? 225 3 pointers made (1 shy of max) at 43.2% (which is what most guards have as their FG%) and is #1 in the league for 3 pointers per 48 minutes. Quentin got 1 more 3 pointer than he did and needed 110 more attempts to get that one 3 pointer.
That's like saying Wallace is an alright defender.

He'll be getting some money thats for sure, there are a few teams that need a good shooter...

He'll be able to find a home elsewhere if he decides to leave Miami, though playing with Shaq sure gave him an advantage. It's not surprising he'd consider leaving though. The notion of sticking with one team long term and being part of a force for a number of years has become somewhat of an antiquated notion.

Which is why I would stay with the Heat if I were him. He may get more cash elsewhere, but Shaq gets him a bunch of open looks every night.

someone will surely sign him. but he won't perform like he did in maimi since he won't have shaq this time

I hope Udonis stays, I like him a lot.
Keyon Dooling is supposed to go, but thinking about the guards leaving we should have drafted a small guy, not a forward.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 2:14 am
Udonis could leave since they got Simien recently but Jones is being a bitch thinking he's hot shit because he made so many treys last season. Quite stupid of him not to stay in Miami and be a contender instead of ending up in Atlanta or something for more salary.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 2:45 am
It's always about the money. He may elect to stay with Miami but test to see his worth around the league. I expect Denver to look at him but...

Passing to an open man for a jump shot is a fundamental, basic part of basketball that was around way before Shaq was even a baby. It's employed by every team in the NBA to every pick-up group of street ballers, it has nothing to do with the Miami Heat.
Clearly, DJ is an assisted spot-up shooter vs a playmaker (those guys have FG% much lower), but that doesn't mean that spot up shooters hitting at that clip are somehow a dime a dozen. Who else on Miami is going to convert 225 3's when Shaq/Wade kickout? Laettner? Wang Zhizhi? Qyntel?
I would think after Game 5 of the finals, we'd understand how important it is to have someone who can convert those kickouts.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 8:27 am
get allan houston then for those kickouts
Sat Jul 02, 2005 8:33 am
Hmm...that really suprised me. I still have a feeling Jones might come back, if he gets the right offer. If not, well then Miami lost a good guard. His perimeter shooting is amazing and is quite the consistent player. Other teams obviously must have a big intrest in him.

True, but it's a fundamental part of basketball that can be extremely lethal when you've got an offensive powerhouse that commands so much defensive attention night after night, play after play.

Shaq was the one who helped Damon to a good season. He promised to let Damon have a third of his scoring or something and in the end it worked. Damon should stay in Miami or fade away on some other team's bench.
Tue Jul 05, 2005 12:03 am
DJ will stay in MIA.
Tue Jul 05, 2005 3:06 pm
What was DJ thinking?

Is he unhappy with his role?

Why leave as a free agent?

Miami Heat need him. He is their best 3 point shooter. Please don't leave.
