Hmmm.... It will be interesting to see where these players are headed if most of them get released.

Other players considered strong possibilities to be released in a similar manner would be Chris Webber in Philadelphia, Jalen Rose in Toronto, Eddie Jones in Miami, Doug Christie in Orlando, Theo Ratliff in Portland and Raef LaFrentz in Boston.

:( Although I hate to hear it, his contract makes him a very worthy candidate of being released......

If Memphis doesn't get the chance to get ahold of at least one of these players for the minimum in the off-season especially since they need a scorer and a big man, I will be pretty mad. Just to think if they end up getting Ratliff and either Rose or Finley, that would make the team perfect because then they will have a 20 point scorer and a big man. At least try to go after Ratliff Jerry WEST!

As I said, the league will be severely unbalanced if they all sign for less-than-average salaries. Just imagine, Theo ratliff nad Jalen Rose at San Antonio... Bye-Bue title hopes for every other team for at least 3 years...

I would love to see the pistons get Finley. That would make them REALLY good because they would have a 3rd guy off the bench who can score 15-20 points pergame and he would be able to take a lot of pressure away from Tayshaun who if you watched the Finals played too much and got fatigued towards the end of the game.

Now superstars are available for teams to sign for minimum, since the old teams are paying their old salary. So these players would end up in championship contender teams. I wouldnt be surprised if all of them end up in Miami.

Shit, a chance to get all that money and play on a championship team? Nice way to get a ring for the old timers.

too bad barkley, ewing, and malone ain't around anymore lol

but this is very bad for the league. It is just going to "Stack" things more.
You think about it teams like the Warriors, Bulls, and Wizards worked hard to get a team that could contend soon.
Assuming everyone goes for the title their won't be no hope for those teams.
San Antonio, Miami, Minnesota, Detriot, even Denver will be the teams they will go to I think. Miami is the best outta those places ( weather wise) so they will get the most and probably let Shaq's guarentee of a title happen
hell they can all go start their own team.
All signing with the bobcats would be funny

It'd be wiser to go to Miami than SA. This way they still get to play. Look at Glen Robinson.

Malone was sooo close to signing with the Spurs. I wonder if he regrets taking that chance (my guess he doesn't regret anything).

Well, the Lakers did stack themselves up with Malone, Payton, Kobe, and Shaq, and they still lost to the Pistons, and nearly lost to the Kings. I guess it's the team with the best defense and chemistry prevails. Of course, having good players help too.

Team stacking is pretty LAME. I think NBA players are bitching way too much. As a result you see things like Boston trading Payton to Atlanta for Walker, only to have Atlanta waive him and he resigns with Boston, thats just crap. CRAP CCRRAAPP!

They earn major dollars and they bitch like children coz their NBA finals dreams didnt work out, too fuckin bad, its a big league, dont screw the dynamic of the league just coz ur bitter about gettin old!

anyways, I think the problem will be solved when Stern puts his foot down and brings maximum length of contracts down to 4 years.

Stacking? Houston, Finley, and Christie is hardly stacking. As pointed out, adding even aging Hall of Famers like Payton & Malone couldn't get them by the massive underdogs Detroit. And that trio are nowhere near the level of Malone.

We're making mountains out of anthills. All of these guys are iffy bench players, and add no impact to a contender team. Adding veterans like Laettner & Steve Smith did nothing for Miami, adding McDyess to Detroit helped out perhaps 1 game.

Much like veteran Jimmy Jax on Phoenix, if the a contender team loses one of their premier guards, one of these guys could fill in and put up some numbers but it only delays the inevitable.

And none of these guys are like Horry or Reggie, who are worth keeping on a roster all season just to unleash them in clutch moments. If anything, all 3 of these guys wilt under pressure.

well this is not LA which had its internal problems w/ kobe and shaq. Minus that problem and i think it is fair to say Lakers would of done what was expected of them.
But those players can fill the spot that teams are missing. a team like Denver needs a SG. Miami could use a upgrade over Eddie Jones. These vets know their roles and don't have a problem adjustiing ( except maybe webber)
I really think its hard to not believe those players won't improve a team considering what they've done in their career.

KVH has a player option to renew his deal for another year, and at around 15m/year, he'll do it.

Actually you can only play in the NBDL your 1st & 2nd year.

The players will stick make their money even tho they are released, so most will just go to a good team and sign for cheap and maybe get a championship out of it.
