hmmmm.... I think Ben Gordon won it partially because he deserved it (though not any more than Ricky Davis) and that he was a rookie and some people probably wanted a rookie to win it for once... so he had that edge on Ricky Davis.
That being said... I think the argument that Ricky shouldn't win because he plays 32 mins a game is a bit faulty. If you say that, when the MVP award comes around, should a player not win it because he plays more minutes? Ricky Davis comes off the bench, therefore makes him a sixth man.

Let me add something that hasn't been mentioned here:

- Ben Gordon is the first rookie to win the 6th Man Award :D

What's the game of this legendary player from the Boston Celtics? he was the best ever player ever off the bench. I can't remenber his name. His name of the few accomplishing the 25-7-7 throughout the season.

Go Earl Boykins! Nah... Ben deserved it but you could make a case for any of the players on that list... Ricky is a sixth man, thats his defined role on the Celtics!

Oh, HE PLAYS BETTER OFF THE BENCH. Don't give me this 32 minute crap.

Ok, if next year Iverson gets crazy and refuses to be on the court during tipoff yet still averages 42 mins per game, he'll be deserving the 6th man awar, right?

Good sixth men provide depth and a spark off the bench. I believe that's what Ben Gordon has been doing, quite often in the fourth quarter.

I don't think that you can call Ricky Davis a Sixth Man. He is averaging more than some starters. And Gordon was playing only 24 minutes. He is a real Sixth man. I think that if a player plays more than 28-30 minutes he is more like a starter because at least one starters at his positions will be playing less than he is.

Anyway, Ben Gordon really deserves it!

DipSetVC: the nba didn't have to give gordon anything. any individual accolade he happens to win, he's earned... hater

I meant that he played so well, he had to win something whether it be the sixth man of the year award or the rookie of the year.

I believe that's what Ricky Davis has also been doing, except throughout the whole game.

Absolutely, and as I said before I don't think there's any question that Ricky Davis was a legitimate candidate for Sixth Man of the Year. I'm just saying that Gordon was a legitimate candidate as well, they both fit the criteria. Gordon's fourth quarter heroics obviously impressed more voters (as did the fact he's a rookie), thus he was chosen for the award.
