Biggest guys

Postby Rasputin80 on Thu Mar 31, 2005 7:49 pm

hi all! :D

After the small dunkers.lets' talk about the biggest man that ever played in NBA...

Personally I know:

- Manute Bol at 7.7
- George Muresan at 7.7
- Yao Ming at 7.6 (but last year he was given at 7.5..is he grown a full one inch in few months?!?)
- Mark Eaton at 7.4 (Utah's center of 80s)
- Smith at 7.4 (all star center of Indiana of some years ago)
- Pavel Podkolzin at 7.5
- Shawn Bradley at 7.6

I've heard that some years ago there was a player that weighed about 380 pounds for 7.2....

I'm sure you have more information than me, so don't hesitate to post here biggest players you remember :P

Thanks as always
Cheers

Indianas All-Star centre in 98 was Rik Smits (The Dunking Dutchman), retired quite early at 33

Whos this Smith?

Personally I think shawn bradely could do a lot more than what he has given in the past few years. He should take advantage of his height and dominate the paint. And if he does that then he could be considered a top big man of the league

yeah, sorry was meaning Smits

also for me Bradley could have done much more....but In my opinion is phisically impossible that a human been of that height has athleticism, speed, timing for being a dominant centre in the league! Yao is making great things...but no one more than him has shown great skills...
Cheers

people too often mistake height for quality of play. if any of us was as tall as bradley we would be just as goofy. i still think that after a player passes 7'4" the height becomes a disadvantage.

plus at very large heights they start getting back problems, and get tired easy. Its not easy being that tall. they have to duck their head under basically every doorway thats not in their home or the stadium they play in. Health is the biggest issue when your that tall. You probly wont see Yao Ming play past 36-37 years old cause of health problems. Maybe Im wrong but we'll see.

yeh ive heard that same thing about extremely tall players concerning their health. cant remember the exact health issue, but i know that will be a factor for most people of those heights.

Mark Eaton averaged over 5pg or something ridiculous in one season. He blocked shots like someone his height should.

Isn't it giantism or something? I know there was a concern about Pavel Podkolzine because he isn't having surgery to correct it he's on medication instead.

Knees, Feet, Back... but when you're Shawn Bradley, the only muscle you move on court is your neck so would also get a strained neck.

Rick Smits was actually 7'6", he was listed at 7'5" (rare for a player to be listed shorter then they really are)

but he retired because he had huge knee problems his entire career.

huh your right, the only sites i can find do have him listed as 7'4, but i clearly remember him being listed as 7'5", and the pacers announcer announced him as 7'5".

i also remember reading an article about him a while ago which said he was actually an inch taller then his listed height.
