Larry Hughes should be DPOTY

Duncan is out, and so is Kirilenko. If Hughes doesn't win the award, I'm going to be pissed. He gets around 3 steals per game and all-around pure player.

Last night, the Sonics got the ball trailing behind 94-95 with 16 seconds remaining. Larry Hughes guarded Ray Allen (one of the best offensive players in the NBA) 1-on-1, locked him down, and stripped the ball away to give the Wizards the win.

I agree. not only can he still the ball and shot people down he intimidates people to go away from their game. When they played the heat earlier in the year i was watching the game and larry hughes made dwyane wade play more perimiter basketball and didnt allow him to penetrate. he is the top defender in the league this year.

It's amazing how much Hughes has improved. To be honest though, I don't see him winning DPOY because of his injuries, but there's still a chance since a lot of players have been out with injuries. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben Wallace won it again, though.

No, I think Linton Johnson III should be the winner of that award. He may have allowed only 4 points at most this season!!!!

I think that Hugues improved to be one of the best defensive player in the league, but I'd like to see that one more year before he earns the DPOY title, as I wonder if he's not having a career year just because he's in the last year of his contract

He's also been out injured quite a bit during the season.

Well Hughes has been injured too, I don't think it's based on who's not injured at the end of the year.

Three candidates have been injured:

Larry Hughes - out for 20 games
Andre Kirilenko - out for beginning of the season, and now the rest of it
Tim Duncan - unknown

Ben Wallace is the only other option, but I would like to see the award go to someone else.

Bruce Bowen was never really a stealer, he doesn't gamble, stealing doesn't raelly mean good defense, Bowen just plays straight up man to man defense.

Hughes is an intruiging choice, but i'd like to see Marion get it before Hughes.

Steals are the most irrelveant stat out there. There is no stat to measure great defense.

I'd rather see Bruce Bowen get it than Larry Hughes. People go have a lot of steals are over-aggressive and go after steals and if they miss it, which is more often than not, they put their defense in a bad situation. Great, one-on-one defenders and players who alter shots and control the paint deserve the award. But too bad there is no stat to determine who is the best at that, so you have to have a trained eye to really see them.

Now, as a Timberwolves fan, I think Trenton Hassell should get some considersation for the All-Defensive team and KG should get some notice for the defensive player of the year. Now, most people just look at the stats to try and find the best defensive player but I think that's just stupid. It should go to a guy like Bruce Bowen, Trenton Hassell or something.
