Dwight Howard

Postby fgrep15 on Sat Mar 05, 2005 5:59 pm

Anyone see his last 2 games, he's really been a beast:

vs New York: 20 points | 15 rebounds | 4 blocks | 6-12 FG | 8-9 FT

vs Sacramento: 20 points | 16 rebounds | 3 blocks | 6-12 FG | 8-8 FT

How good is this guy gonna be...maybe he's trying to make a late run at the ROY trophy..

I think it's probably too late for him to grab ROY, although if he produces like this for the rest of the season he could probably get it quite easily... the things I didn't like about him in the beginning had nothing to do with his on court ability, it was just his pure arrogance and over-confidence... but yeah it's good that he's playing so well, guys like KG and Duncan are nearing 30 now so a new wave has to take over...

I was thinking about making a thread about him this morning. anyway, I was wondering how he's doing since I read in slam that his goal was to surpass the success of lebron and be one of the best players to come out of high school or something...

I don't imagine Howard surpassing LeBron's success as a player.
I also think that, right now, Emeka should be considered ROY above Dwight. :)

Ben Gordon is having a late run at the ROY award at the moment and given the success the Bulls enjoy after a great number of years of utter nothingness, he has a chance, especially considering Emeka is on a losing team.

That said, I believe Howard is en excellent specimen at the PF position, although he can play anything from SF to C. I have read 2 or 3 of his interviews both on the webb and on hoops magazines and the consensus of others towards him seems to ba that he is a devout Christian and a nose-to-the grindstone type of character who is commited to excellence. I do not know if this is absolutely a fact, but it should be a welcome change from all the gangsta hype the NBA has been receiving during the last years.

As for ROY for Dwight, he's running 3rd and very late right now but my bet is he'll get Most Improved Player next year, especially if the Magic stay above .500

If he got more touches though he'd be able to produce about 15 PPG because the games I've seen him play, he's basically scoring 10 PPG off pure hustle, so give him 2-3 more touches a game, and I'd say he'd score 10 PPG.

He's a very interesting player, his wingspan is amazing, and he's so athletic it's scary, he'll definately be a very good one.

Also yes, Ben Gordon is a scoring machine, probably the most clutch player in the league, actually screw probably, he has been the most clutch player scoring wise in the league this season.

If you haven't read it already, FOX's take on him is interesting:

That's a quite good article, dweaver, thanks... (Y)

IMO Howard will eventually surpass Okafor in terms of achievements... Okafor may (and IMO should) win ROY.... but Howard is better than Amare was in his rookie year. Of course their games are different (Howard is a best defensively), but I see him progressing fast... I saw him play on the Rookie Challenge and was quite impressed with his coordination and explosiveness around the hoop.

Anyone who doesn't think the top 5 rookies are Okafor, Howard, Gordon, Deng and Iguodala, lol, is out of their minds.

I'm taking Ben Gordon for Rookie of the Year.

I said Okafor in a different thread but I havn't had the chance to see Ben Gordon play, now that I've been able to see more Bulls games on TV I would take him for Rookie of the Year over Okafor any day.

Ben Gordon is the bets 4th quarter player in the League... if he had more minutes he'd be killing Okafor for ROY!
