Otis Thorpe was a fairly good player. Man, he was traded to Portland for Clyde Drexler  He's a 15 pts 10 rbds player on his career and even the half season he played with the Grizzlies he registered 11 pts - 8 rbds ; so Darko has to be a more than average player to consider the trade as a steal :)

But, what of trades that have been made recently, which ones in the future will be good ones?

I guess you could argue that at the very least, Darko was a safe selection in that he could become a special player down the track, while being a player that the Pistons can sit now while focusing on the present ie. winning championships. It's much easier to say that with the Pistons having won the title last year, though. I wouldn't call it a genius selection or great trade just yet. It was a move that has created a situation with a lot of potential (you just knew that buzzword would come up).

Absolutely - at least, he wasn't in his prime. He even made the All-Star team in the 90s.

These may be the best trades, but the worst as well. Just think about the other team...

i was not saying this based on thorpes career, i was going on what thorpe would do for you from the day they traded him on.

Yeah, everytime I see this thread, I think of "the worst trades ever"

I think the best trades ever should refer to great deals on both ends rather than bad, lopsided trades.

I'm surprised no one said Phoenix robbing Philly of Barkley.

Traded by the 76ers to the Phoenix Suns for Jeff Hornacek, Tim Perry, and Andrew Lang on 6/17/92

Becuase Jeff Hornicek ended up being a two time all star and one of the great all time shooters, and barkley after that 1993 season began to wear down and was never himself afterwoods.

I found one that will please sbhzmafia:

Memphis trades Mike Bibby for Jason Williams.

If the trade is so good for the Grizzlies, it's not because of these players though. Indeed, Nick Anderson, a good player on the dusk of his career, was included as a part of the trade. Anderson, through trades, finally became (via Wesley Person) ... Bonzi Wells.

The Grizz made a wise move on this one :)

i think boston celtics made one of the most amazing moves ever. if gary payton comes back to boston then this trade was a blessing in disguise wit ice cream, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry on top.

boston gets antoine walker for gugliotta, stewart, payton. payton goes to FA. now if he comes back to boston which is 50/50 very possible... then its walker for gugliotta and stewart. not only does that make boston a serious playoff contender, but both GP and walker r FA next year so if needed they can dump their cap and they will be 1 of the few teams under the cap. smart move no matter wat

and dont forget about vince. thats was pretty lopsided as well. look at nets now they can hold their own and they only hav 2 players... wait till RJ comes back

I'm surprised about Boston. I've been criticizing Ainge when he brought Walker back, but it's actually a good move now that they got Payton back.

Tracy Mcgrady to Orlando for a future first round draft pick. (Toronto and Orlando)

And then there's the huge Houston trade involving Francis and Mobley.

Oh and another bad move by the Raptors, Marcus Camby for Charles Oakley. Man, sometimes it makes me cry when I think about all the players we lost.
