989 Sports Skill Challenge

Postby GloveGuy on Sun Feb 02, 2003 12:25 pm

Participants: GP, J-Kidd, Marbury, and Tony Parker

It features four players competing in a timed “obstacle course” event consisting of dribbling, passing and shooting stations.

Who do you guys think will win this? Obviously it doesn't decide on who's the best PG in the L but it will be pretty fun to watch. I'm guessing that either Payton or Marbury will win since they can pretty much do it all.

I'm sure Marbury will be salivating at this chance to show up Jason Kidd.....every bit helps I guess...

I'm thinking this event will go the way of 2-Ball - one year it's there, the next year it's gone (yes, 2-Ball was around for three, but you get the point). I'm surprised the 3 on 3 contest is returning this year, I thought it would be All-Star Weekend 2002's "Well, we thought this would be entertaining, but we weren't happy with the result" and receive the axe.

Personally, I'd like to see less of these new events, and a return to the older, more exciting formats of both the dunk and three point contests (8 competitors, three rounds).

I agree there but... No way we can get it I think.

OK.

Since they are Point Guards the passing should be easy for them, the least favorite in that statement should be Parker, he's good but not an original shooter, same with Kidd. I would have to take Marbury over Payton cause his dribbling abilities, I'm not saying Payton doesn't have any but I like much more Marbury's.

I'd have to go with Steph to win that. He is the best shooter of the bunch and probably the best dribbler. I like the concept but I don't think it will last.

Too bad we'll never see an All-Star One-on-One competition.

I know in soccer they have a nationwide Amateur tournament series and the winning team gets to play a professional team in an exhibition game. If you allow every player not currently playing for an NCAA or professional team to join an 8 man team and enter...then let the winners play a team of 8 good NBA players...you'd probably get a good game.

It wouldn't even have to be a tournament. I'd pay $$$ just to see some of the following matchups...

T-Mac vs. Kobe

Iverson vs. Marbury

Tyson Chandler vs. Kwame Brown

Reggie Miller vs. Michael Jordan

Houston vs. Sprewell

Jason Williams vs. Rafer Alston

The players would never agree to it though...there's a lot of ways the NBA could cash in on people's regular sports debates though...especially by letting a team of NBA players play AND1's travelling team.
