ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENTS

Postby DR. P on Sat Nov 16, 2002 9:59 am

GP ARE YOU WIT' ME

It appears that two players in particular, Gary Payton and David Robinson, have had a clear attitude adjustment and their respective games are certainly showing it. Although its early, Payton stands alone as the league leader in assits (10.6) being the only player NBA wide to have dish out more than 10 a game. He's actually ahead of Kidd [last year's MVP] in the assists department and averaging a double-double thus far. He's shooting 44% from the field, maintaing a 21 ppg avg, and shooting almost 80% from the charity stripe. And many thought Payton was incapable of harnessing his ego for the betterment of the team. Clear he's changed his tune and players like Rashard lewis are flourishing as a resultant (currently 32 in the league in scoring at 18 per). If Payton can keep this up, could a long awaited MVP plaque be coming his way [especially given the lack of quality players on his team]? I'd say if he can lead that team deep into the playoffs with a 6th seed or higher, then he should get a serious consideration from NBA pollsters.

ALL ABOARD THE SS ADMIRAL

As for the Admiral, he also seems to take have taken an acute departure from his rather aloof and indifferent demeanor over the last few seasons. This year his stat line looks like he actually has a pulse, ranking 5th in the league in rebounding, shooting almost 50% from the floor and 73% from the line. His scoring's is down from his career numbers but maybe this recent infusion of energy is a harbinger of good things to come. I'm sure Tim would definitely welcome the help. Maybe the admiral is trying to give us one last hurrah before he say bon voyage.

Best,

P

last year's MVP

was Tim Duncan...

Payton always puts his problems behind him when on the court and that's what makes him on the greatest point guards in league history in my opinion...

Robinson I think definately would love to win again in his last year, I hope he gets to be in the All-Star game as a backup, even if I'm normally against sentemental picks, he deserves it for all the mis-truths people have spouted about him over the years...

Electro,

I know Tim was the "real" MVP, but I believe most people know kidd probably deserved it more, so I recognize him in this case [as I'm sure you probably assumed]. I know some will undoubtedly think the converse, but still as of right now many believe that Kidd is the standard for the modern point guard. He rebounds, passes, dishes, yada-yada-yada. I personally like payton more, but I believed the comparison to last years "pseudo"-MVP was indeed warranted at this admittedly early point in the season.

best,

P

I guess we can have this discussion, since it hasn't been done on the new forum yet? but Duncan was More Valuable than Kidd last season, without Duncan, what do the Spurs have? without Kidd the Nets have a lot more and probably could've won 40 with Marbury...

Kidd may very well be the best point guard in the NBA, but that doesn't mean he's the most valuable player in the league, that...would be Tim Duncan...

anyway P, nothing to say about the rest of my mindless imbecilac post?

well..i wolud have said Shaq...but we're talkimng most valuable for his team...not best...then i'd say Iverson...without him the Sixers don't have anything but Van Horn and Mackie, while without Duncan the Spours still have Robenson Smith and Parker, not a bad trio...

Kidd may very well be the best point guard in the NBA

Seriously Pabel...Robinson and Smith are old and less able than Van Horn and McKie are, Parker was a rookie from France last year...Duncan was more valuable than Kidd, last year...and since Iverson already won and the Sixers didn't do so hot, he had no chance...

Good point about Shaq, though we didn't know how valuable he really was until now, though that may just be this year...plus Shaq won in 2000...and repeat MVP winners are something the media doesn't really want to appear to do...
