Kobe Injured against Cavs

Fri Jan 14, 2005 4:02 pm

He left the game in the 1st quarter against the Cavs with a anhle injury, no details about the length of the injury has been released.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Lakers star Kobe Bryant sustained what the team called a severely sprained right ankle midway through the first quarter of Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and had to be helped off the court.

X-rays were negative, but Bryant will have an MRI on Friday, team spokesman John Black said.

Hope it isn't too serious.....

lakers won but a painful win it was
now all those teams below the lakers have a chance at passing them

Fri Jan 14, 2005 5:39 pm

never saw the game and when i visit nba.com saw that kobe got injured... i said a big SH*T. but after sometime, i looked at the bright side...
Look if kobe will need to sit about 3-5 games, then the other lakers esp Odom need to step up.. maybe its a good timing for Odom to pick his game, gain confidence and be the No.2 option we all expect from him..
aslo goes with other lakers players, gain confidence even if we lose. as we all know lakers are on the learning stage and its better to learn form defeats and mistake...

just hoping it not that serious and if he can play without re-injuring it the better but as i said i hope its a blessing in disguise...

EDIT: well indeed Odom stepped up in this game....

Fri Jan 14, 2005 6:12 pm

Odoms game has been there all along, problem is he wasn't getting enough shots or enough of the ball. Now that Kobe went down he becomes the #1 option and he did what he could do with Kobe in the lineup

Fri Jan 14, 2005 9:02 pm

The problem with odom is that he hasn't been aggressive when he receives teh ball.

Fri Jan 14, 2005 9:43 pm

dang! Why did Bron take the 3 with 9.0 seconds left!!!

:x :x :x

It's the Ewing effect I swear, watch the Lakers actually play some decent basketball with Kobe out.

Hopefully I've officially jinxed it.

Fri Jan 14, 2005 11:04 pm

This sucks cocks.

Just like last year, Kobe gets injured in the firs quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. He also said that its the worst pain he has ever felt, cant be good.

Btw, much respect to LeBron James. During halftime he went to Kobe (his favorite player) to check up on him. Very classy move (Y)

About Odom, he can play like this if he wants to. Maybe it doesnt seem like it, but dude gets alot of touches on the ball, but when he wants to go inside its either a soft drive and cant finish the layup, or he just plays one on one and screws up a dificult shot. If he goes inside, he should go agressive. He showed before he can do it.

btw, how the hell did the Lakers win when they only made 4 three-pointers?!?

The Ewing effect, it's something ESPN came up with. Look it up.

lol, I like that last part.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 8:58 am

that really sux... at least all thje players get to step up in Kobes absence as all of y'all already said. When does george come back???

Sat Jan 15, 2005 12:03 pm

Hehe, Its like he fell off the face of the earth or something.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 12:45 pm

I kind of like the fact that Kobe is injured. Remember the game @ Denver? They were going down 16 or 20 or whatever, then when all the ally oops came, all the starters got benched, and what did the garbage crew do? They brought the score closer, but I forget how much closer. Also this will establish Odom as the leader, and maybe he can play like he did in Miami..

Sat Jan 15, 2005 3:05 pm

well.. i found it sorta funny that he was only mentioned after so long in the game report.. it said he helped Kobe into the locker room....

He better freakin start playin cause its his chance to show everyone how good he is... maybe steal a starting spot! :)

Sat Jan 15, 2005 5:53 pm

I don't completely agree with the notion that the injury is a blessing in disguise, but I do agree that it could be a little beneficial for guys like Lamar Odom. If Odom can step up and the Lakers can survive without Kobe for what will be at least five games, great, but what about when Kobe returns? Will Odom shrink back and will the team remain as successful or (as one would hope) drastically improve?

I guess we'll have to wait until we've got a better idea of how long Kobe's going to be out. I think if we're looking at anything past a couple of weeks, the loss outweights whatever good may come of forcing his teammates into a sink or swim situation.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 5:57 pm

If Odom dominates like he should it could mean when Kobe returns, Lamar will be more confident with himself... to the point where he might start taking shots away from Kobe. By the way Kobe talks about his teammates, he wants to get everyone involved and make sure everyone's producing etc and to an extent he does, but not with Odom who's easily the best out of the other guys they do have. It's odd.

Sat Jan 15, 2005 10:01 pm

i agree with andrew. imo the problem with odom was that he wasn't effective together on the floor with bryant. this will just prove how good odom can be when he has the opportunity to do more playmaking. rudy t and his coaching staff have some work to do with that offense

classy maybe. what kind of message does this send to your teammates and coaches?! would lebron show the same compassion if ira newble went down with the same injury? i don't wish injury on any player but c'mon... i wouldn't be surprised if a few of his coaches and teammates rolled their eyes when saw that happen

dirk and nash are best friends but they put that behind them when they first matched up. heck even dirk didn't want to talk to nash after the game because he was so pissed they lost but later ended up leaving a message on nash's voicemail saying nash played great and it was a good game

Mon Jan 17, 2005 1:48 pm

damn!
when the kobe is injured then the lakers are in deep sh*t.....

What? Sending the wrong message? You've got to be joking. I think it's a great thing: a player in the NBA actually showing normal sympathy for a fellow human being. In most sports if a player goes down, no matter which side they're on, other people from both sides will come to their aid and check to see if they're OK. I'm glad at least someone in the NBA knows something about sportsmanship.

Once again, I don't know why you're applauding Dirk's attitude. Sounds to me like someone who needs to realise that what happens on the court stays on the court, and as soon as the game is over there's no use being angry with your mates just because they wear a different colour jumper to you.

I say full points to LeBron for not only being a star but also maybe having his head screwed on right and perhaps being one of the few NBA players not to be a completely self-centred jerk.

Mon Jan 17, 2005 2:58 pm

I'd actually agree with what Shakes is saying. I've always been the type to do a great Charles Oakley impersonation on the court (i.e lots of elbows, pissing people off) but off the court I wanna be friends with everyone. The only way I'd see what Bron did as detrimental, would be if it kind of snapped him out of his "zone". KG seems to be the kinda player who could be hindered like that, but Dirk seems to relaxed and laid back that I can't see how it'd affect him either. Especially after the game.

Mon Jan 17, 2005 5:04 pm

man i know lebron loves compeititon and is just disappointed that the lebron vs. kobe matchup didn't get to exist. I know he was looking foward to this. He even said on TNT that Kobe is probably the best swingman in the NBA.

no i'm not joking. i could understand this if this happened with someone on his team. but this for someone on the opposing team. the same team who you are trying to beat. is it not just as good sportsmanship/showing sympathy if he came to bryant while there was that quick break in action when bryant went down? or if he just asked if he was ok while he was being taken off the court. or visiting him/calling him after the game? or sending him a card or email? it wasn't like the guy was shot or his arm came off. i'm actually now having some doubts about james killer instinct. bird, zeke, mj, etc never did this in their great careers.

and going off your comments, what does this say for the rest players and coaching staff of the cleveland organization? did they demonstrate poor sportsmanship for not doing the same thing as james did??

what's the crime here? it's not like he's ignored nash ever since that game or attacked refs in the parking lot like rasheed wallace has done. he was upset from the loss and he eventually called nash and their friendship was not affected. nash wasn't even upset about it, he understood the situation. go read the article in Sports Illustrated, 2 or 3 issues ago i believe. this just shows how great of a competitor dirk is, not that he has poor sportsmanship. this isn't like junior t-ball where you have to shake everyone's hands on the winning/losing team and then sing that "2-4-6-8 who do we appreciate" song. just as you mentioned it's normal for players to show sympathy to another human being, the same goes the other way. maybe you're the one that needs to understand that there's things called competitive drive and passion that drives these players and they can't just turn these off once the buzzer rings.

I say full points to LeBron for not only being a star but also maybe having his head screwed on right and perhaps being one of the few NBA players not to be a completely self-centred jerk.

yeh- agreed that lebron is good person but using his visit or dirk not shaking nash's hand after the game as a points to show that other nba players are jerks and have poor sportsmanship are poor examples

that's a good attitude. but it's very unlike in any workplace where a lot of the employees get along, especially in the competitve environment like the nba's
