Minesotta vs Phoenix - Jan 04

Wed Jan 05, 2005 2:56 pm

This was a good game, KG exploded for 47 points, but was unable to lead the TWolves to victory. Amare was a beast, he's really seperating himself from Yao because of his agressiveness, now if he could use that agressiveness on the glass and defensively he'd be super.

Eddie Griffin stuggled a little, their was one time he got blocked 3 times in a row by Amare, Steven Hunter and someone else

The thing that struck me the most out of KG's 47-15, and Nash's 20 points and 16 assists, was Q-Rich taking 17 three's, that's more than whole teams attempt, I saw him launching a lot, but didn't know it was that many till I checked the stats.

Now it would be all great if he made 10 of those or something, but he shot 4-17, and was 5-22 total from the field, Q-Rich really needs to stop with the excessive three's, even Baron who takes way too many wouldn't take 17 in a game if he was only making 4.

Man, 17 3's is a hell of a lot. You are right about the seperation of yao and stoudamire.. amare is reminding me alot of a younger shawn kemp when he was terrorising the association with his inside play. Is 47 for kg a career high?

Wed Jan 05, 2005 3:28 pm

not just a career, high, but a franchise high

Well, the timberwolves are Kevin Garnett, he is the franchise. They werent anything before he arrived and since he's been there he has been the man.

Yea that's true, they haven't been around that long, and he's been the franchises best player, so it's no surprise that it's a franchise high. Good performance, but the TWolves aren't racking up the wins this season.

Q-Rich's attempts are video game numbers, like Amare's 20/27 but obviously not quite as impressive. I guess it didn't matter because the Suns prevailed, but that's simply a crazy number of three point attempts for a single game.

A lot of great scoring outbursts recently, it's a shame none of them have been scheduled on ESPN Pacific Rim. (N)

Q needs to take a leaf out of his college days at DePaul where he averaged a double-double (I think like 20-10 for both seasons) as a 6'4" forward  ....

back then Q couldn't shoot a lick, and scored a lot inside and on offensive rebounds and stuff....I think of those 10 rebounds per game, he got like 4-5 offensive boards a game

all scouts bagged Q for lack of perimeter touch, saying he couldn't make it cos of that....well, he's worked on it and he still is......

I know it can't go back to the old days for Q as NBA is bigger and tougher than Conference USA, but it'd be nice to see a bit more of the old Q rather than 17 friggin' 3pt attempts....

Well perimeter players rebounding numbers decrease when they get into the NBA, it's just how it is, but he's a great post up guard, just doesn't use it anymore, and for a 6'5 guy he's still a good rebounder, he averages 6+ boards a game, which is great for a guard.

hmmm.....I'm getting the feeling that Q came to this forum and check our this thread as against Houston he got 14 rebounds, including 6 offensive

he still threw up 11 3pt attempts (he at least hit 4 of them this time) but I guess in the Suns' style of play, this is acceptable.....

Thu Jan 06, 2005 3:44 pm

Lol he hit 4 of them in the last game aswell... I've got both him and JJ in my fantasy league team, and I'm starting Q at the moment... my FG% is fucked completely, but 3pt shots and rebounds are doing well with him (Y)

As long as the Suns arent mad yet... its all good for Q but if u were the coach would u ask him to do something else wit the ball?

Thu Jan 06, 2005 5:40 pm

Well he's a great post up guard, so you could ask him to post up, but that's out of the question if Q has an open three.

Fri Jan 07, 2005 7:24 am

the X... yeh i followed 'Q' back in his days at depaul too. i was a little worried how he'd pan out in the nba since he played like a pf in college. no doubt his 3pt shot has improved, but little else imo. it's disappointing he's fallen in love with the "3", he still has no in between game and his handles are junk.

that's why i think he's better served coming off the bench, destroying backup sg/sf's in the post and on the boards... play the spark off the bench. phx sure could use some production from the bench eventually.

Well... him and Joe Johnson hang around on the perimeter to wait for Nash to give them an open three... so 17 threes probably means he was open a lot? :?

It's one of those stats that D'Antoni will probably live with given the team's playing style and success so far. If the Suns were struggling, I'm sure Q would see his minutes cut for hoisting threes so willingly.
