kidd wants trade

Fri Oct 01, 2004 8:17 am

I just saw it on hoopshype rumors ( the link needs you to register), but the Nets don't want to trade him.
He now joins a list with Peja, Baron Davis and Vince Carter of players who want to be traded; all all-stars to be exact.
What's with all these stars these days? The only legit person who has a point is Kidd really...all the bad moves and him aging and wanting to win asap and not rebuild is understandable, but the others i don't get. You sign a contract and you should play till it finishes and not complain. you getting big bucks for it!

No surprise really, the Nets have their reasons for scrapping their team but they've gone about it a bad way - it's a high risk to take, trading away proven players for a few draft picks which may or may not yield players who can help out the team.

In some ways I agree with you, but at the same time players have a right to be unhappy the same as anyone has the right to be unhappy with their occupation or working conditions. Most players sign with teams out of faith that they'll do right by the player and make the right personnel moves. With players often being treated like commodities and having little or no control over where they'll be suiting up, they no doubt hope that a team will show them a little loyalty or at least consider their best interests from time to time.

Besides, if a team is free to trade a player who has committed to them by signing a contract, a player should be free to express displeasure with his team. The contract has obligations on both sides, but satisfaction and unconditional happiness aren't among them.
