I'm currently making a 1976 roster for Fast Break Basketball so I can start a career on that, due to the fact that I'm currently X-Boxless . Anyway I came across a player Bill Robinzine. It turnt out he had died while playing in the NBA still, so being curious I did a Google search to find out what I could about him. Instead I got this story about Gus Gerard and Marvin Barnes. I thought it was interesting and also sad at the same time, so have a look...

Thanks for the link Jae, that's definitely worth reading. It's a sad story indeed, but it could have ended much worse. For a lot of people who abuse their bodies that way, there is no revelation, no rehabilitation. It's good to see them helping other people avoid the same fate that they themselves narrowly dodged.

But as well as know, history is doomed to repeat itself. Guys like Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker have had problems with substance abuse, and their once promising careers never quite lived up to the expectations we had when they were perennial All-Stars.

But their high points in their careers e.g. scoring, etc. will live on in NBA history...

These days though if you ask the average NBA fan who Vin Baker is, chances are you're going to get told "he's that fat alcoholic guy". Their careers may stay on in NBA history but their reputations get destroyed.

That's true, but as Jae said their reputation does suffer and we do remember how their careers declined as its all part of their story.
